I am in the process of designing a 135 gal in wall mixed reef for the house I just built. Truly well deserved repeat!

Every once in a while we see a TOTM that 's pretty new and hear of system issues or even a crash not too long after. But not this system, the technology, effort, and ingenuity are the only components to exceed the coral growth and beauty. I have really enjoyed reading every post along the way and learned so very much.

Hey Joseph, first of beautiful tank, and second, great idea how you shoot air through your penductors. i bet your skimmer goes crazy after you do that and it gets all that nutrient rich water. have you noticed any adverse effects from doing this?

chris wright, Bax: Thank you very much for the kind words.

Ralph: The regulator I use is very old but keeps on working well. It's made by the Italian company Mestriner and is primarily designed for welding tools. Their site.

gsxunv04: Thanks and yes, the skimmer does in fact produce more skimmate just after the air injection system fires. I haven't seen any negative effects from running this system, only the appearance of positives. Although, the fish do briefly hide while the tank is air filled but still, I don't see this as a negative... just a means of tolerance.

Hey Joseph,

I did want to congratulate you on another well deserved TOTM! I always thumb back through this thread for a few ideas and a little inspiration at times

I've been skimming over the thread and maybe I'm missing it in all the replies, but was curious as to the husbandry routine in a basic sense. Besides how often WCs are done, how often, if at all, you siphon debris off the sand bed (can you actually see the sandbed:lol: ), blow off the rocks if at all etc. Just curious on a few of the little things!

Hop: Thank you. The only real in-tank maintenance I do is to clean the glass and... well, it's just cleaning the glass. The sand the cucumbers pretty much handle and everything else, the flow keeps things in suspension. I do have to clean the bottom of the top braces periodically as they accumulate calcium buildup from the water lapping up on them. Overall, this is the real beauty of the tank. It is pretty much on auto-pilot and provides me more time to view it rather than time working on it. Tank maturity is very underrated.

You're welcome :thumbsup: I read about the air injection system (great idea BTW) Apart from added oxygenation and skimming effect are there any upsides to the fishes side of things aswell as corals. Has there been any down sides to the system?
