LOL, Joseph, that thing can't be trying to communicate, because we all know that EVERYTHING would love to live IN your tank.... including me.....(especially with the second image happening all the time) :eek2:

"The 240 Inwall Brothel!"

Joseph,
Do you think 8" dia 24" long acrylic tube would be to large for a kalk reactor of you type of design? I am wondering with that size dia. would I get enough saturation?
What are your thoughts?

Marc: I'll check it out.

frankiej: Thanks for the kind words. I'm sure that when you get started on your new tank creation, there will be plenty of free input from everyone. Good luck to you and I look forward to seeing your progress.

simonmr: Thanks and that was some speed reading you must have done. ;)

Lunchbucket: Yes, three but the orange guy is just hanging out on vacation from a fellow club member's tank while some Harlequin Shrimp attempt to alleviate his Asterina population.

thewuf: I'm just curious as to what the resulting color combination would be from an intimate meeting of those two. :D

ssbreef: That's an interesting question.

Awright: I don't think it would be too large, just not required. Saturation is going to be based on the flow rate through the reactor, the strength and duration of the mixing device as well as the quantity of calcium hydroxide added. All of those could be adjusted to ensure proper saturation with any size other than one designed way too small.

Just a guess.... :D

weatherson - can you point me to the part of this thread where you built that aluminium light rack?

I have two 8" dia 12 long acrylic tubes now. Trying to decide Kalk Or Ca reactor which would work better for that size tubes. Or would/could I make a properly functioning Ca and kalk out of one tube for each project? I could always add on an additional chamber for the Ca reactor later if the demands were way higher than one tube could produce, right?

Awright: You could use those for either reactor but you may be better to save them for a skimmer or two. ;) The reason I suggest this is due to the 12" length of each. Both reactors are better suited with taller, narrower cylinders to function optimally. Again, you could use them but it wouldn't be ideal.

NexDog: As far as I am aware, my site has been up during this time. I just checked it again and it is in fact up. I'm not sure what's up with that.

Hmmm, weird. Also none of the images on that first page show for me either. Must be some routing issue or maybe a firewall issue. Hopefully it will work itself out. You could ask your host to do a trace from the server to 219.103.17.206 (my IP).

Well, Holy Smoke. What a thread!! I just stayed up way too late enjoying the best thread I have seen on reef central.

My eyes are tired from the colors. I had never seen the purple linkia. Unreal. Absolutely unreal.

Thanks for taking the time to share with us.

Thanks Joseph,
I think I will try to get 4 or 6" for the reactors. Save the 8" for a skimmer.

I know you do allot of acrylic bonding. One more question, will weld-on #3 or #16 bond polycarbonate to acrylic?

Joseph,

Do you have any experience bonding acrylic to solid surface countertop materials like Corian?

Also is there a way to tell the difference between cast cell and extruded by the appearance?

Thanks

Steve

NexDog: I will do that. Thanks for the heads up.

Lee: Thanks for the kind words and I'm pleased you enjoyed the "abbreviated" journey. You are welcome.

Awright: Yes, both will bond polycarbonate to acrylic but I never use #16. ;) If you have to use #16, you either need better tools or more patience. :D

Steve: No, I haven't bonded those together but I am sure there is some type of adhesive out there that would work. The only issue I could foresee is the difference in hardness.

Cast acrylic and extruded are fairly easy to tell apart. Cast typically has a surface not unlike glass and extruded has extruded ridges from the manufacturing process. Think pasta from a pasta maker and you get the picture.

Weatherson We are getting ready to finally cycle our new 135 bow and am in absolute awe of what you've accomplished with your set up. I read this entire thread last night and have learned so much from your hard work! Thanks for posting all you've done it has been a real pleasure to follow.I really appreciate your attention to detail.Hope to achieve close to what you've done. Love your photography, that used to be my main interest. What camera are you shooting with?

David: Congrats on the tank cycling stage. You are well on your way now to some exciting times. Thanks very much for the kind words and it pleases me that you were able to enjoy the read. As far as the camera, it's typically my Canon Digital Rebel with the 100 mm macro lens but... some of the recent shots were taken with a buddies 20D and the same lens. He was kind enough to let me "try it out" and I will say that if for nothing else, it's nicer for just the better controls and layout. I'm not sure if I could see any resolution improvement from the additional 2 mega-pixels but it too took some phenomenal images.

NexDog: I was going to send you a PM to let you know that my host "unbanned" some areas so that you would be able to view the site. Glad you found this out already. ;) Unfortunately, security was interfering with connectivity but this has been altered slightly.
