I was in Thailand last month and had the pleasure of seeing Chingchai's rimless SPS dominated tank and immediately fell in love with the look of this type of tank. I have admired the other rimless tanks like Invincibles and a few others so I decided to join the club.
Here is an early diagram of the setup:
I have tweaked a couple of things since this was draw up like the canopy but it is pretty much the same for the most part.
I contacted pretty much all of the main reputable rimless glass tank builders like Aquarium Obsessed, Miracles, and A.G.E. and decided on the later mainly due to their reputation.
The tank is 48" x 48" x 24" w/ 1/2" starphire glass on the front and sides. 1/2" PVC bottom with external overflow.
I plan on running a dart for the main circulation and Tunze Streams for actual internal flow.
The tank was ordered in late February and I got a call from A.G.E. yesterday informing me that it is basically built and should ship next week.
Here are some pics of the tank build:
Staprhire sheets mixed in with regular glass:
The PVC bottom being routed:
The tank itself:
The tank is not only going to be rimless but it also going to be fairly low to the ground with the top of the tank only being approx. 48" tall. I did this in order to allow me to easily view it from above.
