240g A.G.E. Rimless Tank is becoming reality

I was in Thailand last month and had the pleasure of seeing Chingchai's rimless SPS dominated tank and immediately fell in love with the look of this type of tank. I have admired the other rimless tanks like Invincibles and a few others so I decided to join the club.

Here is an early diagram of the setup:

I have tweaked a couple of things since this was draw up like the canopy but it is pretty much the same for the most part.

I contacted pretty much all of the main reputable rimless glass tank builders like Aquarium Obsessed, Miracles, and A.G.E. and decided on the later mainly due to their reputation.
The tank is 48" x 48" x 24" w/ 1/2" starphire glass on the front and sides. 1/2" PVC bottom with external overflow.

I plan on running a dart for the main circulation and Tunze Streams for actual internal flow.

The tank was ordered in late February and I got a call from A.G.E. yesterday informing me that it is basically built and should ship next week.

Here are some pics of the tank build:

The tank is not only going to be rimless but it also going to be fairly low to the ground with the top of the tank only being approx. 48" tall. I did this in order to allow me to easily view it from above.

I will be using cone power to remove waste from the tank:

I wanted to test out the skimmer so I hooked it up to my current tank and it started working right away:

The stand has also been under construction for the last few weeks as well:

That's it for now. I will hopefully have more pics next week.

Wow really nice...the A.G.E. looks good, kinda wishing I'd gone with them. At 11 weeks and counting now waiting on my AO tank...

Wow, looks great. I've been planning on a similar hanging canopy set-up with three Lumenarc IIIs.

The A.G.E. looks sick too.

Awesome stand!I love that canopy to hide the lights, but still enough to show the rimless. Wanna make me one? =)

Thanks for the comments.
The canopy and stand were designed to give the entire setup a very clean look. I orginally was going to just suspend the canopy from the ceiling but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.
The stand and canopy are being built by a friend who is a much better carpenter than I so he put casters on it ease the move.

hi,,just wonder how are you gonna lift up the canopy when you need to work on the tank? can't wait to see more picture,,,good luck to your build thanks

I have two mechanisms that will move the canopy. One is a winch type setup that will tilt the canopy back away from the tank and other is a lift that will raise the canopy up or down approx. 12".

Triggerfish, Im glad to see you start a new project. You have great taste in fish and would love to see what you come up with on this new aquarium. Im sure that Clarion will be look great in it! It should be here anyday. AGE said that it was done Thursday and ready to be shipped but I haven't heard anything since then.
The stand and canopy may be done this weekend as well so I hope to have some new pics in the next day or so.
