240g lee mar in-wall commences!

Sorry to hear about your Scopas. I have dodged the pest bullet (knock on glass) except for a little ich on my blue hippo tang when I first moved her into the new display...

So did you have red bugs on your SPS as well? Did the QT and treatment work for you? Bring us up to date when you have time...

LL

It's been a while my friend but I'm back!
The loss of the Scopas was indeed a bummer, however it really wasn't a surprise as the LFS I got it from was the same one that I purchased a Valida frag from that had RB so since then I've set up full fish and coral QT's and I have vowed to never make a livestock purchase from there ever again. All SPS frags that I had were tossed as I just didn't want to deal with the possibility of having anything besides RB or AEFW, so I got rid of it all and have gone 2 1/2 months now without any SPS. It will be November before I begin purchasing any acropora as for now I've decided to get my fish stocked.

I really like you open aquascape-very nice! I'm jealous...
anyways, I was wondering-did your damsels school? I was thinking about buying some but wasn't sure if they would. Looked like they did in your tank though.

Great build!!

Thank you for the fine comment! Yes the damsels did school but I still wonder if they turned on each other since they were the only fish in the tank, hence I only have one now.

Update!

Update!

The tank has been coming along well except for some red turf algae which the Tangs are grazing on, and it seems to be turning brown and disappearing in some spots. I feel like such an idiot as I had some Mexican Turbos that would have mowed it down but I forgot them in the sump and they perished:hammer:

The Arizona summer has also been a true test as even though garage temps hit 96F the tank sits at a cool 79.5F to 80.9, though there were a couple days due to our monsoon storms temps hit 82F and humidity was 65%:eek1:. I've also added a calcium reactor which has been a big relief from dosing 500ml daily...boy was that getting old. I dose 20oz of stock solution of Brightwell's Magnesion and that keeps it around 1260ppm and my bi-weekly 10% water changes takes care of the rest, Ca is solid at 450ppm, Alk 9.3 and PH is steady at 8.2
I also made some improvements to my mixing/water change station, I can now feed ro/di water from storage to mixing container, ro/di from storage directly to the sump if needed, mix salt water in the mix container, pump fresh SW to the sump all with one pump:D So now I just switch off the return, drop the rio1700 in the sump connect it to the pvc drain, unplug it when the water in the sump reaches a marked level and pump fresh SW right back in. Total time 10mins;)
I also switched from Reef Crystals to Red Sea Coral pro as I wanted to get away from the "Added Vitamins" and brown residue that kept on being deposited in the drum...I know it's been said it does no harm but I wanted a "cleaner" salt and so far coral pro has been good. It mixes well and I've noticed less algae growth on the glass could be the red turf out-competing.

I'm going to continue stocking my fish until the majority of them are added, this way I'll have a stable and consistent bio-load established before adding any sps. I've also decided to run ozone so I'll be picking up the Red Sea 200mg/hr unit soon. The wife took tons of pics of the tank tonight as well so I will post them tomorrow, here's one for now though.

The 4 halides ramp up 2 at a time this shot only has two on

Looking good man. I got those frag of yours ready to go. So lmk. Took a few of the worst looking ones to Skip the other day and we found lots of pods and one of those arrow shaped Planeria. But no AEFW. Everything is growing good and is really starting to color up again. Come by and check em out if your this way.

Great build and it shows your diligence in making sure everything is perfect. You definately know what you're doing. I will make sure to reference your build when an in-wall for me comes along. Good job

I really appreciate the kind words. The truth is no matter how well you plan to ensure success there is always something that you can Identify a way to improve however I did achieve my overall goal of simplicity and functionality with aesthetics being a by-product of my anal retention:lol:
I just got done cleaning the glass which is only a weekly thing believe it or not, moved some small frags back to their home since the tangs, while grazing, will pick them up on accident, and realized that in less than 2 months it will be a year the system has been running:cool:

I still need to post the pics of the mixing containers which I should get to this weekend. I picked up 7 Mexican turbos and they are putting a serious dent in the turf algae. Moved an Exquisite wrasse and a Desjardini Tang to the display as well, before moving the wrasse in I had to construct an eggcrate "barrier" around the perimeter of the eurobrace to prevent jumping as I lost the first wrasse that I added (Whipfin Fairy wrasse) due to concrete surfing :hammer:
