240g RR build thread

Yea, it's like almost black and the skimmer just keeps fillin up with it. It's about 1 an 1/2 inches deep in the cup right now. You want to smell it don't ya Jack :D

I have dated women from Illinois...I have smelled worse than your skimmate. :D

That thing is definately doing the job...once it cleans all the new funk out that tank it will settle down. I bet the Misses will be pleased when you wash the cup out. The kitchen sink is an excellent choice for cleaning about the time everyone gets up in the morning. I wonder why I live alone? :D

Geese Jack.......I don't know why you live alone??? That's a good one. Now I ALWAYS clean it out in the kitchen sink early in the moring, it's like an alarm clock.......I clean......Everyone flings out of bed gets dressed and bolts out the door in 4.7 seconds. Thus leaving me with the house all to myself to play with my fish tank in peace & quite ( other than the gurlging noise of my tank).

That makes two of us. However that will most likely be a year or 2 before it's fully stock with everything. It's a slow proccess that take a lot of research, and then you have to research and then just when you think you know what your doing you have to do some research. Did I mention it helps to do a little research??

I have to give props to those that helped with this system too,

First, Im Lon2.....Who has done more than I can metion!!

Baron, Thanks again for everthing! ( back ground of the tank & putting only his rear end in the pics  )

Markk96, Who helped me with all the equiment and gave advice! I can't thank you enough.

Everyone who helped move the big best into the house!

mpcart, Who is the main reason behide me going with the T5's, After seeing your tank I was sold on them!!

And the OLD & WISE Cap-N-Caveman, Who's advice was more than needed. Plus he put up with all my goofy questions.

And last and defintly the least of them all, the annoying no good bad idealistic guy who really did nothing but stick his ugly mug, hands, feet, arms...whatever body part he could, into every pic taken Rich1972. Even Scarecrow the brain dead did more than he did :eek2: Did I say that out loud?? Oops.:bum:

The tank looks fantastic! Did you modify that skimmer at all or is that it's stock performance?

Did the pvc elbows do the trick and quiet the drains? Now that you got the tank up and running, is there anything different you would have done with your overflow design?

Yes I did Modify the skimmer a bit. It came with rubber washers for the pumps intake which I noticed cove 1/2 the air intake hole. After research on a thread about these skimmer I found that an O ring was the best way to correct the issue, so I replaced the rubber washers with O rings. A cost of $0.45 @ the hardwhare store. From past issues with my ASM G3 I decieded to go ahead and drill out the air intake nipple & hole inside the pump for max air intake. Other than those 2 things I'am running it to see what it can do. I looked over the needle wheels and I like the way they are so no mesh mod. If it contiues to work like this I'll never touch it again.

The elbows did NOT do any good. No matter what we did with them they kicked our rear ends. So we try'd a T pipe. B I N G O!! Works fine, there is still a fair deal of noise, My wife didn't know and bought the cap with threads instead of with out ( MY fault for not explaining myself do to excitement) But I turned them upside down and place them on the the T's and presto! Quite. But they keep vibrating off. I am going to get the NON threaded caps and drill a hole in the top and then put them on. This does not affect the flow/drain just solves the noise. We try'd with one end cap & the others capped off and no issues.

Ummm, thats a good question. I think the anwser would be yes. I would have made the overflow placed about 1/2 of an inch higher. After filling it and running it we noticed that the water level in the tank was about 1 inch shy of the black trim around the top of the tank. Easy fix though, I took a piece of the Black PVC and cut a sheet to fit the front of the overflow but a 1/2 inch taller glued it with aquarium glue and the water level rose 1 full inch. Beings I opted out on the black plastic cover I had already planned on doing that anyway, so I just cut it a 1/2 inch taller. They had never made an overflow like this before and wasn't sure how to make the cover but was going to find a way but for $90. I could just glue the PVC I already had so I opted out.

Wow, I guess I should take that as a compliment of some sort coming from you stupid! I have to say, now that the Wicked Witch of a wife you have and I found the PERFECT chairs for the tank room it is awesome. I really do love that it has all come together for you, I for sure know what all of you have been through to get it up and running, way to go Shag! And yes, that is one hell of a skimmer you got in there. Now that it is done, well for the most part, I was able to finish up the remodeling of MY living room...FINALLY! I look forward to many nights of gawking at the tank as I relax in the bomb diggity chairs we got for the room! CHEERS to you SHAG!

Thanks, scarecrow :)

On top of the airflow Farmer. I have the fan on with the lights for now, until I can get the computer fans this is working. I still have a bit to finish yet. The rest of the trim, running the cords and placing the panel box, + I need to buy real timers instead of those cheap Wal-Mart ones that keep breaking.

Lookin' sharp! You're moving right along.
You should bring that skimmer over to my house. :D I just moved everything over to my 120 today. Still waiting on the skimmer pump. Euro-Reef was waiting on them. Hoping to get it monday

Ok, Stupid and Wicked Witch got to do the rock shopping yesterday and they got some great pieces. Stu, you really need to get those pics up here. Wicked witch has some innate talent of sea scaping the rocks, she really has a good eye for what would look and work best. And after our littel adventure to St. Charles and got the deal we did, it's just getting better. Good job Stu, and tell the wife I said the same to her! And thanks for last night, those cosmos were awesome, and Mr. Tom Collins is very tasty! CHEERS!
