Dry rock

Dry rock

Where did you get your dry rock from? I purchased mine out of Miami but have mostly round pieces. I like that you have some flat ones to work with!

Thanks!
Scott

i got mine from a sponsor here REEFROCK.net, i custom ordered flat pieces. infact i googled lots of pics of aquascape and the ones i liked i had 3. i sent all 3 pics to them and asked to replicate. they sent me exact pieces like in pics and i was able to make the reef i wanted.
i am happy with the rock quality and shape.

well finally it came to a point that my korallin 1502 cal reactor couldnt keep up with this system so i had to buy a new cal reactor. i debated long between a reef octopus dual chamber vs geo 624 and finally after 2 key points later i decided to go with reef octopus.
I love reef octopus products so that was heavy in back of my mind but the 2 key points that sold me to reef octopus are:
1. R O comes with a circulating pump rated for 500gph vs Geo with 158gph pump. from experience i have learned that better/high constant flow is very important in reactor to make sure of co2 dissolves fully.
2. Ph factor. single chamber reactors seem to lower ph a bit and co2 buildup is a common issue if ur trying to feed an aggressive sps tank. dual chamber reactors seems to have an advantage of a second chamber and absorb the co2 bit more thus helping in maintaining a bit higher ph compared to single.
will post pics soon

Also this weekend i am working on refrigerated fish food automatic dispenser system. it involves a controller , a pump a fridge triple doser and some skills to put it all togather. i have gathered the idea from several DIY forums and combined few to make it work with my system. pics coming soon.

i installed a manifold with 8 outlets for water driven equipment.
calcium reactor is one thats running off this manifold.
here is a pic:

Nice looking set-up...I know I'm way late on this but I ust saw this thread for the first time, isn't the outlet on the skimmer very high, the way it looks in the picture the minimum water level will be up in the collection cup?

nice observation.. yes it was the same problem like u mentioned so i had to cut the outlet short and bring it very close to the top of the sump. now the minimum water level is at the base of the removable neck.

You might want to move your intakes for the closed loop into the overflow box if you plan on having anemones. i lost 2 to my intake on a 3200GPH pump. Just a thought plus it will hide the white. why don't you build a seperate frag tank instead of having the ugly rack in that beautiful tank? maybe also add a strip of window tint across back of tank. You can still see through it but it'll hide the pipes and the garage a bit when looking through the front, or even paint the back panel

i have never had any luck with anemones or clams. they dont live but few days so i dont try them anymore. also i am working on a frag tank now as i am removing the QT and replacing it with frag tank. pics and thread is old i did put a mirror tint for car windows on the back side. from inside it looks like a mirror but from garage i can still see inside.
i can paint the back as that the only access i have to the tank. but anyways thanks for the suggestions. i will update pics soon.
working on the automatic feeder DIY fridge system with auto dosers.

This is my first post and I'm happy to say that's a beautiful system. I read some negative posts but I think all in all it was constructive. Best of luck and congratulations.

With water chem like you've got listed why can't you keep nems and clams? Seems like you've got absolutely everything necessary and more to keep anything you like. Keep up the good work!

it is an honor that u posted ur first comments on RC on my forum. thank you for that. yes there are negative constructive posts here but thats the while idea behind it. i rather do it right than wrong the first time.
the reason i figured out through other forums for not being able to keep nem and clams is as i am running ULNS (ultra low nutrition system) my alk is high at 11.
ULNS should keep parameters close to natural sea water. (alk 7) thus i am in process of reducing the alk over time. once there i will be able to keep anything.
