240Gal Reef of its own kind

Good looking aquascape man. Plenty of room for grow out and flow. So you ghost fed and have zero ammonia and what about nitrates?

Corey

Thanks. The tank was already setup for yrs along with sump that drove it with 50lbs rock along with a frag tank. When I decided to cut the main out sump and frag tank continued to work. After re doing the scape and sand in main I filled it with saltwater and ran it too.
Having a fully cycled sump added enough bacteria to the system to have just a 3 day cycle.
Ammonia was 2ppm and nitrite also reached 2ppm then back to 0 within 3 days.
Nitrates went to 40ppm and now with help of semi cycled Bio pellet reactor and sulfur denitrator its down to 15 ppm today.

Lookin sweet!@

Hey Newbie... over 2000 posts... can we find you a new name like... Newbie extraordinaire?

Is that a bubble wrap thermal blanket under the frag tank?

Happy Fathers day all

(from your swimming children)

lol happy fathers day to u all too.
its a 1/2" styro foam insulation under the tank.

no its a rimless frag tank and plywood under was rough so manufacturer recommends foam under the tank. only on rimless tanks.

i have always had custom GC tanks including this main tank and 5 previous ones. its not an excellent tank but not all that bad either. silicone work is sloppy some places but for most part i give them 8 out of 10. also my tank is in-wall so nothing shows from front. all u see is glass.

you have an awsome build there man. all the best.

thanks you very much... what part of South Africa? i was in cape town about 10-12 yrs back when South Africa first got their ban lifted from international cricket and they played world cup.
Jhonty Rodes was amazing.

Todays update:
Parameters are dead on again as i though they would be.

sg 1.026
temp 79.2
ammonia 0 nitrite 0 Nitrates down to 5ppm
phos 0.05
cal 430
alk 7.62
mag 1350
there is just a dust of hair algae showing on rocks. Between the 3 tangs (Achilles, Blue hippo and yellow) and about 5 snails its going away along with reduction in nitrates via sulfur denitrator and bio pellets and vodka dosing.
i am sure with such equipment and dosing Nitrates will be down to 0 in few days and phos are already 0.05 so i doubt hair algae will survive soon.
I also have a lot of chaeto in my refuguim.(about size of 2 basket balls)

So i have decided to run seaklear phos remover.
i went ahead and go a triple reactor. i did the following:

1st chamber
reaction chamber with lower foam removed from cartridge top foam left in to trap the debris.

2nd chamber
cartridge filled with sand with lower and top foam in place.

3rd chamber
cartridge filled with polyester filter floss

i am thinking to put the out of this reactor to inlet of a carbon reactor filled with ROX.
i am using 5ml diluted in 2lts ro/di water and about 80ml per day. have not started the system yet just put together.
what do u guys think?

I had 3 Dispar anthias and 3 Lyretail Anthias along with 5 green chromis and 3 blackbar chromis and 1 lawnmower blenny in qt for last few weeks. i ran preventive hypo on them and today was time to transfer them in. I did transfer. Everyone seems to be doing fine. They all ate well and got along good. 3 bar chromis seems to be just hiding in rocks and dont come out.
