24g Nano setup: reuse aragonite?

Sorry if this has been debated to death, but the search engine is dead (by design maybe?)
I'm buying an existing, running 24g Nano on Sunday, and I have 3 options:
1) buy new aragonite from my LFS, $40/20 lbs
2) resuse the existing 2" sand that's in the successful cube today
3) wash and resuse aragonite from a 55g that's been sitting in my garage, dried out and frozen, for 2 months.

My inlination is to reuse the existing or wash the stuff in my garage.
Barebottom is not an option for me; I'm looking forward to having interesting sand critters in the tank.

Everyone has an opinion; they're interesting and entertaining. Right now, however, I'm looking for your firsthand experience or sound biological reasons to make a good choice. I value your knowledge and reasoning, not your opinion. If you suggest reuse, how/why/in what is the sand "washed?" What if I don't "wash" it? What are the dangers/advantages?

I say wash out the old sand. It hasn't been in a liquid with a low enough pH to begin to disolve it. I would do this in either old tank water from a water change or fresh filtered water. If you do it with tap water, the sand will trap all the bad stuff such as chlorine, chloramine, copper, etc. That's just my opinion.
