24g NanoCube Stock-Pump

Anybody else have any experience with the stock pumps on the '06 jbj's? I'm not so sure that I'm getting enough water flow, thanks.

Does anybody know anything about the nozzle that spins and spreads the waterflow around?

I use the stock pump and its ok. I know alot of people have problems with them though. Basically they just die on you. You should keep a spare just in case.

Are you talking about the hydor? They're ok. I took mine off after a few days.

The stock pump is great...for making my saltwater

I upgraded to a MaxiJet1200 and like it. Some people go with the MaxiJet900 because the 1200 runs a little warmer but with stock DX lights and the 1200 my temp never climbs above 82.

The nozzle is called a hydor flo. I have one, not impressed. It doesn't stay on very well, you have to use teflon tape or something to keep it so the water pressure doesn't shoot the thing like a missle into your tank. I used electrical tape and put it on a Maxijet 600 and within 10 minutes it fell off.
It also really cuts down on the amount of flow that comes from the pump, defeating the purpose of a pump that turns over a lot of gallons per hour. I've also heard of them over time becoming stuck. Frequent cleanings could of course help to prevent that but people say no matter what they wear out. There was just a thread on them today in either the reef discussion forum or the new to the hobby forum, that is where I am getting this info.

The hydro flo is a great idea, so far a bad design. If you find one for cheap enough it couldn't hurt to give it a try.

I don't understand, why get a MaxiJet1200? It has the same gph rate as the stock one.

It is a very common upgrade I think the stock pump is only rated at 265 give or take

Colin - I got the hydo flo and didn't have a problem with the fit. It comes with 4 size attachments and I was able to jam one of the smaller ones into the NC outake. So far it hasnt come loose from the housing and I am running the maxi jet 1200 pump. My chief complaint is that it shoots the water up into the light when it rotates. I do like the wave movement but don't think it was worth the $. I am going back to the stock fitting.

I think the stock rating is about 295, same as the maxi jet 1200.

I still have my 24 gal. ap with the stock pump/filter on it. I have noticed that everyone seems to have these modified, is this something that we are going to need to do?
