Maybe a real stupid question however was wondering if a 9011 could use an E-Jet 5005 ?

Don't ask me why I would want a DC powered skimmer only to the point of removing all AC equipment from the tank.

Yes, this is possible, the end result will be stronger, you really just need the 5005.015 motor block and a 6105.240 power supply. The predecessor of the 9016/9015 was the 3140 and it used such a pump. We discontinued making DC pump skimmers as water damage to the electronics was too common of an issue due to proximity to the sump. You would use the same impeller and impeller housing.

I have a 5005 EJet which is currently in tank, being used for water flow behind my rocks.

So i will just use the motor block in the 9011.

I assume a more powerful pump means more efficient skimming. I would now have two adjustments, air and pump speed.

It will be a stronger skimmer, generally you won't make water flow adjustments, just airflow adjustments, I would use the 24v jumper. The old skimmers that used an electronic pump, we only adjusted the air. You could also get the bigger 9016 cup or 9020.140 foam extractor to take full advantage of the increase in performance.

Hello i get the same skimmer, i have found one defect on it the air tube and i have fix it but i'm really interested by this "upgrade" did you make some test bad_inferno?

7 Months on and I have finally swapped out the AC motor for the DC equivalent. Its on a 4' mixed reef quite heavily stocked with corals however relatively low fish load / thus feeding.

The skimmer has always pulled out around 100ml of skimmate a week. I'll give you an update in a few weeks however even after the intial turn on I have wound the airscrew back in. I have always had to run my skimmer with the airscrew a long way out.

Note on Skimmate production: I also use Ozone into the skimmer however its probably only providing 10mg (I have a 50mg unit dialed all the way back to the LED just turned on) for 3~4 hours a day using a very small air pump.

Now if I could only get my my mini reactor pump changed across to 24VDC the only thing at AC would be the heater.

1st week running... skimmed 150ml -have been consistently skimming 100ml with the AC pump. Taking the cup off I can see the foam is a lot stronger than the original pump.
