Ok so hopefully the pictures worked this time. If not then ill have to go back to doing this on my computer as opposed to tapatalk.

I finally was able to get the potters to start eating. Yesterday he started picking on some nutrimar ova. So I was a pretty happy reefer yesterday! And as of now he still has not shown any tendencies to nip at any corals which is good.

I plan to make my own homemade fish food tomorrow after I pick up some of the remaining ingredients I don't have. I haven't given much thought to quantities yet but my raw ingredient list is as follows:

Nutrimar ova
Brine shrimp
Mysis
Phytoplankton
Formula two pellet
Nori
Squid
Clam
Shrimp
Scallop

My plan for the seafood is to go to an Asian market and grab a bag of assorted frozen seafood. I'll post pictures of the process tomorrow when I do it.

I've been having issues with my ato setup on my RKE and I think my float switch isn't working properly. So i was browsing ebay and saw a stainless steel float switch. Anyone have any opinions on this? or should I just stick with the plastic ones?

Is the float switch the one sold by DA for use with the SL1? Or is it one you rigged up yourself?

I don't know if I'd use a Stainless switch sold on Ebay. I doubt the quality of steel would be safe for SW applications...

No I bought the float switch when I bought the reef keeper elite. The controller is registering that the switch is opening and closing when I manually open and close it, but it won't turn on the ato pump. I ordered two new plastic ones so we'll see if its just the float or an issue with my sl1

If it is registering the open and closed function I would think it is your PC4 and not your SL1. Do you have the PC4 set up to function off the topoff?

I'm not sure what you mean to function off the top off but I had the program set to switch as follows

Device:switch B
On when: open
Timer: none
Device: PC4 outlet 3
Off when: closed

The PC4 will run it if I set it to just ON but it won't turn it on with the switch program. I have 3 PC4s and it won't work on any PC4 which is leading me to believe faulty sl1

But if the controller is noting when it is open and when closed, the SL1 is doing it's job as well. This may be something you should take up in the DA forum.

I just gave it a go on my first batch of homemade fish food. I think it went pretty well. The ingredients I used were:

I package mysis shrimp
1/2 package brine shrimp
3 sheets of nori
1/2 cup formula 2 pellets
1 clove of garlic
1/2 cup phytoplankton (all I had left)
2 ounces whole silverfish
10 ounces assorted frozen seafood (contained squid, mussel, clam, shrimp)
Fish eggs
1/2 package of nutrimar ova
4 teaspoons of spirulina powder

I added all but the spirulina powder, fish eggs, pellets, and nutrimar to the blender and mixed all up. I then added the fish eggs, pellets, spirulina, and nutrimar and mixed those in by hand.

It came out pretty well. My only concerns are that I added too much nori (the food is pretty green) and I'm nervous it might have been mixed too fine, but it does seems to have a good consistency and to be chunky enough for the size fish that will be in my 30 cube (smaller fish=smaller mouths).

I cut 6 12x6 cube strips of egg crate. I know most people just freeze it in a bag but I liked the idea of being able to just pop out a cube. There is a sheet of wax paper between each piece of egg crate to prevent it from all freezing into a giant glob.
