I have been working on and off on this 90 gallon stand for 25 years. I doubt anyone on RC has taken that long to get their tank going. It's a disgrace I know. I have moved so many times and never had a good spot to put it up so it's been in storage most the time. Since i have some spare time I am trying to get her done. My setup is as follows:

90 gal or 125 gal possible 48/50 x18w x 24 high glass/acrylic
Internal or external overflow 1 pipe durso/2 pipe Herbie/3 pipe bean animal
2 metal halides 4 VHOs
Wet/dry sump
Life reef external skimmer

Optional on hand parts:
Calcium reactor with CO2 tank
Chiller
Sea swirls

I'd like to keep an angelfish such as a queen but I don't think the tank is large enough? I definitely want several large fish such as a tang. Not sure if I need to keep the dry portion with media for the fish or if live rock will handle a large bioload. Also want to get a clown and anemone. I just want to make the system as stable and safe for the fish as possible as I don't want to have any fish die on me prematurely. Your thoughts?

Here's some photos.

DAP wood filler

DAP wood filler

I am working on my livestock list. Will probably start off small with an anemone and clowns. Long term I'd like to keep a tang or juvenile angel, and SPS. Right now I am working to fill the stand screw holes. I used DAP would putty but after sanding it my eyes got irritated so I am going to use something else. The putty is all out nasty smelling and unhealthy. Definitely needs to be done outside with plenty of air and googles as the dust really irritated my eyes and it was from image.jpgminor hand sanding. It sands well and blends well and hardens like rock, but it is real toxic.

Stand Paint Color Selection

Stand Paint Color Selection

Stand end, tile wraps all sides. Need to choose paint color to go with the blue mosaics. Will probably go with white which matches the grout. Would like to go with black but it doesn't really work with the blue tile. Could mix in blue and use white for the center trim and rails. Open to suggestions....

ART Acrylics Saint Louis

ART Acrylics Saint Louis

Has anyone heard of or had experience with ART Acrylics Tanks?

Nice.....They do say patience is key in this hobby !!! You sure have plenty of it , but when the dust clear, I''l bet you will have a awesome system...Good Luck

I did not vote, but bio-balls are bio balls... They are like live rock with more surface area... Yes they take more time to cycle, BUT they do work to help in a heavily stocked FOWLR set up... And yes btw that is a nice looking tank you have... Good luck on your setup!!!

Making some advances at getting this done. The tank is here and taking up my parking spot, so I need to get this done, at least with the build.

Stand Photo Update

Stand Photo Update

Covered some holes and am working on the plumbing routing. Trying to decide if I need another support or not. I have a 13 inch gap between 2 cross supports from 9.5 on the tape measure to 22. Any ideas? It will have 3/4 inch pine top with 3/4 inch plywood on it, neoprene, then the acrylic tank.

Canopy Work

Canopy Work

Heres the canopy installed. Working on the alignment. Here's also a photo of Southdown. I have six bags left. Not sure if I will use it for my bottom or not. It's very fine. I have an acrylic tank, don't want the sand to scratch it. Anyone with experience with Southdown?

I really like that tile wrap - I have an open steel frame I've been thinking of wrapping, maybe I'll do this!

Really awesome DIY tank you got going here is there a way I can subscribe to this thread so I can stay up to date? I am new to this forum

I used 3/4 inch thick plywood to prevent the tile groute from cracking when I open the doors but it made them super heavy. They make some isolation membranes you can use behind tile these days which you might try with a thinner plywood. The doors are on hinges because of the weight from the tile. They are crazy heavy.

I heard Southdown stuff is good and cheap! 25 years huh? At the rate you're going we will have holographic reefs by then :)
