250 gallon solar reef

VERY nice Ace! Can't wait to see it soon when I get to SA! Might need you to hold a pair of clowns until I am ready too! :)

thanks rick

just to clarify, i am planning on keeping all of these clowns together in this tank indefinitely.

thanks guys

i added a couple of bubble tip anemone clones and several torch coral frags. the clowns are spreading out amongst them and hosting. will try to get some update pics this weekend.

the tank is truckin' along. corals are growing, clowns are hosting, and anemones are regaining some of their color.

the bleached anemones in the pics are recovering nicely their split and move into the tank.

quick photo update from today

Looks great Ace. For the solartubes, what direction do they face on the roof? I'm looking at putting some on an east facing roof here in Austin that gets plenty of light in the morning but less in the afternoon/evening.

that is exactly where these are. they are just slightly south of east as our house doesnt face due south.

Wow looking good. This shows what a simple set up can become if done right and the proper care is given. I may have missed it but are you running a skimmer or filter on the CL?

i have a small carbon reactor inline on one of the returns of the closed loop. other than that, no mechanical filtration. since i am not running a skimmer, i dip water out of the tank at the surface during water changes (5 gallons twice a week) to remove the film that forms there.

thanks alton, that one in the pic was so bleached when i got it that it was almost white. it has recovered nicely tho. it still doesnt have as much color as the ones i got from you.

What a beautiful tank and set-up. Every time I read this thread, I want to set up my tank, the larger one anyway, with solar tubes.

Keep us posted with pictures as they progress. You don't have any issues with the clowns fighting?

thanks for the comments

van, they are clowns, so yes, they are a bit feisty. so far, there is plenty of space and there are plenty of areas for hosting.
