250W 10K on a 30"H tank

Cool and they are cheaper than XM and reeflux. I think I will keep my IC ballast and get the EVC bulb to test out. Thanks guys :)

From what I have heard from the presentation on Saturday as Tom has also stated HQI ballasts run more than the stated amount.

An electronic ballast that says 250w is 250w. A HQI ballast that says 250w is really 370w or there abouts. I will continue to stick with my electronic ballast and if I find the need then I will purchase a 400 electronic ballast.

bulbs on HQI ballasts are thought to burn out quicker and need replacing sooner than those run off of an electronic ballast (exception being a few bulbs actually being designed for HQI ballasts -- no, I don't remember the list of which bulbs those were, sorry :().

The bulbs on HQI in essence are being over-driven so the bulbs useful life is diminished rather quickly, not much more different than over-driven T-5's.

I know the Radiums were meant for so called HQI ballast.

Exactly, which is why they typically are thought to require replacing more often than electronically driven bulbs. As you said, anything overrdiven inherently reduces it's lifespan :)
