265 Gallon Mixed Reef

do you keep your acans on the glass on the bottom or do you eventually move them up?
i ask because i too am BB and am curious about acan placement in my tank

Such a beautiful set up. I am a water change believer also. I also love LED. I'm on my second set in 10 yrs. Just picked up AI Sol Blues. My only observation is that the bare bottom is well .....just so bare. I know all the theories and have had the same DSB for all 10yrs and it enriches the whole look(imho). I can't imagine going bare......have you ever considered a SB?

I have had sandbeds before and I honestly don't miss the sandbed in this tank. It took a little getting used to but I prefer the bare-bottom

Very interisting setup ypu have, I love it. I wish I had the space to have water change system like yours. Did you ever consider using a better quality salt so you can dose less like calcium and magnesium. I heard the Tropic Marin Bio Active salt good, and me started to use Red Sea Pro. Do you have any sump pics?

I use the Tropic Marin Pro Reef salt. I use this salt because I feel like it is a nicer salt and I do the daily water changes so that I don't have to dose much. I only started dosing a few weeks ago and the amount I dose is far less than the minimum recommend amounts for the Tropic Marin Bio Calcium and Magnesium.

I like your led light fixture, tank looks great.

Thanks :)

I do have the acans on the bottom right now. I will be moving them to the frag tank soon but with the growth that we have been having I don't see any reason to move them higher up.

I took a few more quick pictures of the tank this afternoon.

the acans dont mind the glass bottom? thats my real question, if not i might move some of mine onto the bottom

Have you had any problems with the yellow tang and the CBB fighting?
not at all. why would you expect them to?

the acans dont mind the glass bottom?
why would they mind? lol they do wonderfully on the bottom which is about 40" from the light fixture. the fruit loops acan has been on the bottom since we got it as a 2 head frag about 5-6 months ago. its not about 20 heads and we dont feed the corals except for broadcast dry coral food mixed with flake and pellet in an autofeeder.

dont know why it would or wouldnt. thats why i asked! :(
just see so many of them on sand or up on the rockwork in a BB tank

ah. ok. i wasnt sure if you were asking about the distance from the light or it literally being on the glass bottom. my fiance has kept BB tanks for years and i honestly didnt like it at first but im convinced of its advantages.

me too thats why i switched. just curious because so many corals placed on sand get placed on rocks when the tank becomes BB and its nice to see some on the glass and knowing they dont mind it

Hi, looks great! I am setting up a 265 with a reeflo gold dart. 4300GPH. Im wondering what pump you used? Im worried I may not get enough turnover with the small 1 inch bulkheads if im only using 2 as drains?
