I have to soak the reef cermaics for a few weeks adn change this water out two more times before I go on line with filling with R/O DI and IO also will start teh silicate remover going this weekend with water change 1 on this.
I just rinsed my ceramics really good and soaked them for about a week before placing them in the tank. I had a large diatom bloom for about 2 weeks that my cleaner crew quickly took care of.
Went on to the hair algae phase of a new tank for about a month. Here is a photo of some hair algae growing on the ceramics:
The HA went away after about a month and I am currently going through the Cyano phase of the new tank Maturation. Ugly Phase! :mad2:
I have several snails that love to hang out on the Ceramics. Also notice lots of Amphipods crawling in and out of the little cracks in the ceramic. I guess you can say it's starting to become Live Ceramic.
After speaking with Gary and Scott from Captive Oceans I am going to go through the process of soaking these really well three times and using a silicate remover in a power filter on the tank.
A friend of mine went through a similar experience to yours Mike and now his look just like live rock. I have to wait for another 7 weeks for my plantation shutters to come in and be installed in the openings in front og the tank so I have time to go through the process of curing these and minimizing the algea impact so to speak.
I am looking forward to getting my Red Dragon return pump and plumbing this beast soon.
All the doors are installed, the shutters for the openings above the tank are ordered adn will be here in April. All that is left is some finish carpentry to dress things up down here, the tile in front of the tank, and the carpet.
There are a lot of elements to this outside of the aquarium itself but everything was done with the aquarium in mind. So far I am happy to report that even though the tank is full of water I am not noticing humidity ( I have has some evaporative loss) as a problem. I am sure things will evolve as time goes on with this possible issue but I took steps from the start to mitigate this.
If most of the molding is done tommorow and the carpet estimate is in line then things will be done a bit soner But I will shop around for flooring if I think the estimate is rediculous LOL
Things are moving along though and when the Red Dragon comes next week I can start the plumbing process.
