28th It Is!

It was great to see you guys again, and meet new people. As always, I had a great time. Thanks to Adam for the venue, Scott for running the software, and especially Frank for not only the talk, but also for running the auction.

MSM- I checked out your tank pics and they are awesome. Hopefully once all my frags grow out I can start trading with you. I have packed about 20-30 SPS frags in the tank and when they start getting big I am probably going to have problems (good problems though).

Adam- Thanks for having me over, your place is awesome.

Thanks, I've reached my 1gb/month bandwidth limit on my website (hence the red x's in my threads), but my pics will start showing again on the 1st.

Sweet, pics of your tank give me a goal to work toward. Some of the coloration and growth you have is amazing. What type of bulbs do you run? I am about to get new bulbs to replace the 10K Ushios I am running now. They are great for growth, but I would like something a little more blue. It has been hard to find something that isn't too yellow and still has a nice PAR rating.

I run 250w 14k Hamiltons. Bright, crisp white with a tinge of blue. I supplement with super actinic VHOs.

Adam,

Thanks so much for hosting the frag meet. It was wonderful. I am glad to have met so many new people. It was great to sit and chat. Being new to the hobby, I have not found many that have the same affinity to saltwater as I do. So, it is great to get together with some of the other addicts out there.

Thank you Frank! WOW! That talk was great. I look forward to the next one you will give.

My purchases are doing very well. It even looks like my monti is growing - well - maybe it is wishful thinking :)

Does anyone have a suggestion for lights on the 55gal I picked up? Chris, what were you running on it?

Well, I look forward to the next meet.

Sondra

I was running two 96 watt PC's but I switched over to t-5's and love them to death, am running a 216watt system now over my 72 and all my corals are doing great, even some SPS in the upper 3rd of the tank.

Okay - so I want to set up that 55 with T-5's. I want to have sps and others in there. Don't I need 5watts or more per gallon? I found a 48" Nova Extreme T-5 with Lunar lights that have four 54wt bulbs, but that will only give about 4wt per gal. That light is $200. The other one has eight lights and is $400. I have not been able to find anything in between. Any suggestions?

Sondra

That light is plenty for a 55. I think the 5watts per gallon was an older reference used when VHO, MH, and PCs were mainstream. The new T5s have more LUX intensity output than a 110watt VHO, so the reference is now irrelevent.

BTW, a 110 VHO produces 9k LUX and the 55watt T5 produces 15k LUX. Technology has improved.

Adam had the 8 lamp T5 and it looked amazing in a 30 tall. You will have similar results on your short 55 tank.

Okay then. It looks like 4-54wt lites for me. You guys are great. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and experience.

Looking forward to the next frag meet.

Sondra

Scott told me what kind of bulb to get at Wal mart for my fuge, But I couldnt find any that matched the rating, will a 1700 lumin energy saver bulb work?

Thanks again for having me out to speak, I hope everyone enjoyed the presentation and perhaps even learned something you didn't already know :)

I hope to be able to make it out for your next meeting as well

Thanks again
Frank
