28th It Is!

I use the same bulb on my fuge and the growth is amazing. 5100K seems to work great. I recently sold one to Fishaholc911 and you could PM him to find out how it's working tou for him.

Hey Frank, thanks for the great presentation on QT. However, I've still got a couple of questions for you. First, do you feed your corals anything while they are in QT. Last, I'd love to see some pics of your systems; prop tanks, QT, refugiums and any system setup pics that you could spare. Every pic that you could spare always give us all fuel for our imaginations to perfect setups on our current tanks and prepare/plan for future tanks. oh one more thing, Man I wish I had your Job, too cool!

Anybody know of a restaurant or what ever that has a group room we can get? The group is getting too big for most homes. Plus with a regular meeting place we could get into a monthly schedule. I like Sundays, since I work Saturdays.

Sundays work for me. I know that fox restuarants has a room in one of their restaurants, I think it is Bloom. I can double check. I would love to do a monthly thing.

that would be nice, the turnout at the last meet I thought was pretty good, it would give me an excuse to start fragging.

It would be cool to just get together more often and share knowledge and experience. It doesn't have to be all about auctioning corals and the like. Getting to know other people in the hobby gives you the ability to review setups and see the advantages and disadvantages to each as well as things that can be improved upon.

I agree

I totally agree! Knowing more people in the hobby really allows for a conduit of knowledge. I have been in this hobby all by myself since the auction. I have made some new friends and now I am not the only "reefgeek" as one of my friends called me. So if it was just a show and tell or a frag swap, Im all for it.

I can speak from experience on this issue. I have been attending these meetings from way back when we had monthly discussions at the Chinese restaurant. The turnout was 3-7 people. The discussions were casual, but not structured. People did not have a valued reason to attend.

The reason why the turn-out has improved is because of the frag swap. People value the opportunity to diversify their reefs, at a budget, above all other reasons. We should poll this to be certain. If you replace the frag swap with discussions only, the numbers will decline. I suggest adding discussions to the frag swap, but do not replace the frag swap.

Definitely true, the frag swap/auction draws the majority of people. Raffles, Talks and demo's as a addition. We definitely need to find a place (Pizza Place or what ever) that will let us use a meeting room in anticipation of the extra business. With the turn outs of the last few, most would not have room for all the people, let alone the parking.

I might be able to use the Tucson Expo Center. This is just an idea if interested please let me know and I can find out if it will be possible.

There is no reason why we couldn't do a structured event every month (or every other month) or so, we could kinda have a show and tell about what things have been working fro certain corals and people could ask questions. Every month a certain feature of a tank or coral could be focused on. Being able to have people explain things that have been working well for them might be cool.

I think that every other month might work well to begin. If the meetings stay full or there seems to be more of a demand for every month we could always change.

Hey,

Sorry, just noticed the post! Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the presentation. Next one scheduled for Tucson is 'Anyone can have a Reef Tank: Self-sustaining Marine Biospheres'. Also I am currently working on my newest presentation, Reef systems Filteration series #1: Refugiums and sumps: Concept, Design and implementation.

I only dose 2 part while the corals are in QT, no feeding. Other than that I only feed my Zoos and Paly's and some LPS, not the SPS.

I can show you some pics after my next presentation, of the QT setups.

Which job?? neither one will ever get me rich but at least the Coral Farm / Road Trips / Lectures are a lot of fun :)

Thanks again
Frank
