Im going to be removing the the canopy and replacing it with this pendant that will hang about 6 inches higher. Also i will be replacing the 2.5 year old se bulb with a new 15k DE 250 watt xm bulb

I have a couple different types and by the looks of things it may need somehing to shadow it for a couple weeks. I think it maybe receiving too much light right now but should acclimate if it is shadowed for a little while. This is why it has a light appearance. However, it does look like it is in good shape besides being a little bleached.

Looks like its coming along nicely.

Do you get a sucking noise from the closed loop intake?

Are the bulbs you were using my old ones? If so man those had to be dim after all this time.

Matt to anwser you questions no i don't get a sucking noise and i think its just becasue that pump is only less then 500gph>

And as for the bulb yep those are you old ones lol i don't know how old they are u just know they are really old lol

This leads me to a new problem/ question

Im currently working on getting my tank ready for SPS by thanksgiving. And well I just don't know what todo closed loop or a seio superflow.

Advantage to the CL
1. nothing in the display powerheads etc....
2.less heat

Disadvantages to CL
1. louder
2. more watage

Advantages to SEIO
1. high flow low watage consumed
2. quiet
3.broad flow
4.controllable

Disadvantages
1.heat
2.UGLY

You can see here where the closes loop pump would be installed in place of that little mag drive 5

and you can see in this pick where the CL would be blowing back into the tank.

Either way i want about 1500GPH turn over in the tank so what do you think?????

I was thinking about going with a aqua medic ocean runner 1700 GPH pump has anyone every used one are they quiet and reliable??

On small tanks i prefer a closed loop because of aesthetics.

If having the Seios showing wont bother you do yourself a big favor and avoid the headache of a closed loop.

The Nano streams would be a cool option if you dont mind spending the cash. I think if i was to setup a SPS nanoish tank it would be what i would try.

I just bought the Nanostream 6025 for $66 shipped.. on a small tank the lack of heat produced by a bigger pump is worth it.. (hell I have $150 in an ICA chiller) only looking at 7 watts.. vs 20w on the mj1200 I've been using, can't beat it.. Was thinking that larger one may not be bad on a bigger tank and you can use it with a controller.. course it's a little over $200 plus shipping.. I should receive mine on Tuesday, so I'll give you the updates on it then...

I will have more tomorrow when the light comes on right now i just turned it on to take the shots!!

Now the tank has a 250watt XM 15,000k pendent over it and looks much better

Now im ready for 2 things 1. MORE FLOW AND 2. SPS

How did you keep the water from spilling out of the tank when you took your 3rd picture;)

Looks good, I think you are heading in the right direction. You will just need to boost the flow if your getting into SPS.

Im going to be draining the tank on thursday because my girlfriend is getting me a new AGA black pine stand its going to be so nice not to have this crapy partical board one!! Its going to look so much better.

Also when i move it to the new stand im going to move it against the wall and out of the corner its in!!

Looking great!! Definately check out those nano streams though for increased flow.. or if you want, I have a Natural Wave timer powerstrip and 4 maxijets I could sell you!!

Chris I trust you're Nano stream is working as awesome as mine :)

I must say I am impressed with the new Nanostreams. It would be nice if all the TUNZE pumps were redesigned to look and work like this thing. The addition of the magnet makes for an instant out of the box experience IMO.

TUNZE does it again!!!!

Check one out Nathan I think the one Chris is talking about does over 600 some GPH, perfect for your tank.

haven't received mine yet...anxiously awaiting, supposed to be in the mail today... hopefully by tuesday...

got pics?
