29 Gallon Nano Reef! ... Pic Intense

Well ... this is it! I finally get to start my aquarium log. :rollface:

So the plan is to get all the livestock I have in my 35 AGA into this new 29 Gallon Tru Vu ... so far the only stuff that's come in is my tank and the power center. The ProClear Mud Sump/Refugium is on backorder until Nov. 28th :mad2: so until then I'll be collecting the rest of my aquarium junk and also planning a design for the tank stand. This aquarium system is going to be as simple as I can make it since I don't like complicated things ... The tank will be skimmerless because of the Refugium that will be stocked with chaeto & mangroves along with Kent Bio Sediment for the substrate.

So here is a picture of the 29 Gallon with an internal overflow and black backing. The price was $105 for the tank and $60 for the overflow with backing and drilled holes for a bulkhead drain & return.

I also bought a Tru VU Prefilter for the overflow box it's pretty much a pvc pipe wrapped in a metal removing foam pad and plastic mesh. Now that I think of it you can probably make it yourself for much less than $40.

I also recieved an American DJ power center ... I've seen this on a few threads especially on Erics a.k.a Calvin 415's Nano Cube and couldn't resist. It has a 15 amp resettable circuit and 8 3 pronged 120 volt sockets. Not to mention I am sucker for switches that light up! :lol:

Well this is what I have so far ... Tommorrow's pay day so I'll probably pick up a new Heater and Return Pump. I'll post picks as soon as I get them. I'll probably spend the rest of my time at home depot lookin' at wood for the stand! Alright thanks for lookin' everyone!

As of right now I'm going to keep using my 130 Watt PC Lighting since I don't have many things that need extreme lighting... But I plan on switching to 250 Watt MH on a track in a few months when I begin buying more light needy corals and clams ... that is unless I find a good deal on craigslist

Hey chocolateblnt, good luck on your tank! I set something up similar--I got a custom 29g acrylic from All World here in San Jose with black back and bottom and put a 250 MH above it.

Where did you get the 250 watt MH for your tank? I'm looking into getting one myself that is an easy install...

I got a 250w PFO HQI MH ballast and Mini Pendant. I installed the pendant in my canopy. A lot of people hang their pendants from the ceiling, but I didn't want the light flooding the room, so the canopy prevents that.

Paladin - Thanks for your interest ... I will probably be getting the same set up as Paladin "250w PFO HQI MH Ballast and Mini Pendant" ( www.aquauniverse.com ) but not for a while and I am not quite sure as to how I am going to hang it. I know I want a couple actinics for dusk/dawn effect, a canopy will probably be constructed.

Dark Xerox - I think that overflow will do 300 gph drain but with the prefilter might be a bit slower, most likely 250...

I picked up a return pump today. It's a ViaAqua 1300 ( http://commodityaxis.com/ProductData.aspx?id=7 ).

Pushes 370 gph max at 0' head. I'll be pumping up to almost 3.5 ft. so according to the chart like 250. It's a theoretical match, we'll see how close I am later The pump was only $30! It came with lots of cool accessories including a flow control and screw in to barb thread piping for return pipe.

... Still lookin' for a good heater ... I went to talk to my LFS guy about Ebo Jager but he was strongly against them because he's gotten a few bad batches recently ever since they began being manufactured by Eheim I am probably going to get a Won Bro's Pro Titatinium II

... Also what do you guys think Seio 620 pr 820? It'll be the only powerhead in my tank.

I'd say an 820. I had 2 820's in my 65 gallon and had to cut them back. Better to have too much than too little, if it's too much you can adjust the flow to less. If it's not enough you can't increase it.

BTW, looks good so far, lots of potential!

I agree with calvin415. If that's the only powerhead you're going to use, then go with the bigger cuz you can adjust it.

Hey Eric, What's up bro! I read you had a bit of aptaisia and hired a few fierce peppermints :lol: ... Thanks for the input I'll go for the 820 then. I wanted to make sure cuz I really don't wan't much stuff inside the display tank all the space in a 29 is crucial. Paladin thanks for you assurance buddy! Well it's time to go look for a heater and seio 820 today ... we'll see what kind of prices I can find at the LFS'.

You probably already know this, but in you pic you have the flow control on the input. You always want to restrict the output of a pump not the input. Everything looks nice otherwise. BTW I have 3 820's in my 37 and it isn't too much, but I'm doing only SPS, so if you're planning on softies one should be plenty.

Crab - Yea I noticed that after I took the picture, but really I don't think I will even have the flow control on because I have a feeling i'll need the pump to run at 100%. We'll see soon enough ...

Well after searching the LFS's for a good price on a Rio Seio M820 Pump and a Won Pro-Heat Titanium II Digital; I ordered both on www.premiumaquatics.com :lol: The Seio was $46 and the Won was $40. A lot cheaper than my LFS's wanted, even with shipping!
