290G Peninsula build...yet another Canadian reef

I love peninsula tanks. I can't wait to see this thing with water.

With regards to your light set up, why did you build vs. just buy? What went into your thought process? Would you do anything different if you could? I know it might be hard to answer since you haven't had it over the tank with corals yet, but I'm curious why you went this route. Thanks

Well, got a few more things done on the build...here are some pics.

Room for the plumbing to come up to the display.

Sorry there isn't more but other things in the house had to get done first. :)

Look forward to seeing your tank progress. I am planning a similar build in our new house which my wife and I will close on next summer.

Can you elaborate on your air exchanger setup? Type, decision behind it, is it whole house or just for the fish room, etc......?

Thanks

The HRV that you see on the counter in the fish room is a Heat Return Ventilator. It's a commercial version made by Venmar. (They have cheaper units that they sell through big box stores) but this one is beefed up. The unit will hang from the ceiling in the fish room and will draw air from that room and from the canopy above the display. The "exchanged" air comes back into the house and is released about 10' from the display just near the top of my stairwell. I have a variable fan system on it that lets me adjust from 60cfm all the way to 150cfm. I've over built the piping to 8" everywhere so that the noise should be minimal even at 150cfm.

Hope that helps explain things.

Yes that does, thanks for the explanation, it sounds very well thought out. Do you plan on running it continuously or is it hooked to a humidistat?

Can't wait for more updates on the build!

It has controls...often in the summer, you don't run HRV's too much. The AC helps handle a lot of the humidity.

I designed the house (my first time) and I have really tried to cover my bases. I hate to say the sheer number of things that I've had to adjust for has been astounding. Despite reading and studying all these amazing builds...you can't think of it all.

My advice is to start lists. One for equipment, one for plumbing, one for wants vs needs, another on how to handle common problems, etc.

Well, we got a few more things done on the tank. I began some plumbing and we got the trim finished on the stand. By trim I mean the trim at the top and the base of the tank. Next the doors go on once I've got the plumbing handled.

Here are a few pictures...I think it turned out great!

Okay, so this has been a long time in the making. I am sorry it's been so long since an update.

Here are some pics...

The stand with doors mounted: (not that my phone got a strange coloration on the cabinets in the first two pics)

I really need to get the RO unit going and then start making some water. Now that we are in the new house, the old house has to get cleaned up and gone...my tanks still running over there is stopping that).

Thanks. I have been continuing my work on this. My RODI is now up and I'm currently making my first 100g. I also have my QT tank up. It's small but it will have to do for the immediate future.

I've been working on so many other things, the build has suffered lately. Tonight I figured I needed to get my dry rock out of my way and into the display. There was about 150lbs of it.
The look is not quite right but I have another 75lbs or more of "live" rock waiting to be added once I have the display with water and salt. This extra rock should let me fill out the parts that I need to in order to make it all work.
So here we go:
