29G Oceanic Bio Cube and skimmers

Hello,
I am wanting to get started in the reef tanking. I went to my LFS and they have 29G Oceanic Bio cube. I have looked all over and have found very little information about this tank and its filtration systems. Is this a good tank? Doe anyone else have this tank? Is there other tanks which are just as good? I have looked at the Aquapod 24G. They seem nice but I like the 29G better because it is 4 more gallons to work with. I am also concerned about the hood on these tanks. It seems to me it could get really hot underneath and increase the water temp. Thank you for any info and help you can give.
Oh yeah what about a skimmer. The LFS told me it is not needed for this tank, but they had one on the show model. I have heard that it is always good to have one. Advice please.
Thanks

Those tanks have just been released to the market...many people you have other Nanos, myself included have been anxious to see them. Oceanic has a great reputation. I am waiting until this hurricane season is over and then I will upgrade....Welcome to Reef Central..you will find a great amount of help here..as I have.

it looks like a very solid tank from what i have seen....seems better constructed than the aquapod and nanocubes. Besides that oceanic has a great reputation in the hobby and backs thier products with a warranty. Supposedly the glass is thicker and there are three chambers in the back as opposed to two in the AP so its the tank im getting....more room for fuge mods

if u use the stock lighting you shouldnt have any heat issues depending on your ambient room temp....if you do get heat probs u can always add stronger fans. the xtra 4 gallons of cushion room is nice considering in this hobby the margin for error when it comes to your water parameters.

The show model I was looking at had 3 chambers. 1 for pump, 2 for filter and three specially for the heater. The hood is not hinged for easy acess. There is a small door on the back and the front but if you want to do work in the tank you need to remove the whole hood which is cool with me because who wants to work around that. Also may make it easier to do a lighting switcharoo. I will have to mod it for a nano protien skimmer alittle because there really is not a space for it to poke out the hood. I have read and heard that the skimmers are not needed for this tank but I may still try it. I looked it over really good in the store so if anyone has any questions about the design or whats in the back let me know.

i have the oceanic bio-cube 14. the 29 has much better filtration methods, with the added bonus of being able to get to the "guts" of the filtration without having to open up the whole top. mine is just getting set up right now, i'll have to update my thread, but my only complaint so far is that the fans rattle at times and rub on the plastic, and the filter cartridge tends to limit the top skimming ability.

You really can't go too wrong with any of the major players but I would go with the 29 oceanic for the extra 4 gallons and I am sure you will be learning about the mods to do to all these tanks. Compare prices as some I have seen for the oceanic are quite a bit higher than the other companies. I have 4 nano's going in my office. three 24 gallons and a 12 gallon.

The Oceanic is at my lfs was $299. I looked at the aquapod 24 and it was 40 bucks less so figure it is $8 more a gallon. haha

Thanks for the help. Once I get it i will begin posting pics. I am very excited for my first reef tank!

Temper the excitement with the minimal investment in some good reef books, Get the basics down then rely on the forum and not vice versa. The Oceanic will be a good tank to start with and no need to buy every gadget in the book. Weekly water changes are of outmost importance.
