Went to the LFS today. I purchased a Rainford Gobi. It was quite emaciated, but decided to give him a chance and try to save it. It didn't seem like it was eating much at he LFS, as there wasn't any LR in the holding tank it was in. I've got quite a bit of filamentous algea, mostly cyanno and a bit of hair algae growing on my LR, and TONS of pods everywhere. I also purchased some O.S.I Marine flake food and some freeze dried cyclopeeze. I realize it probably won't go for that type of food right away, but I wanted to make sure I gave it the most choice possible to make sure he/she fattens up.

I don't have a QT tank, but I have nothing else except LR and a cleanup crew in the tank anyways... I drip acclimated it for an hour and in the tank he went. I shut off the halide and left the 65w PC 10K on. He/she scooted around the sand bed a bit then found a small cave in the LR, and hasn't shown itself much since. As soon as it gets less shy I'll be ableto post some pics.

The LFS said not to worry about them. They've diminished in numbers somewhat. Not really getting bigger either. I've been through all the the snail ID pages at Wetwebmedia, but couldn't find a match.

I still have some flatworms here and there too.

The goby's has been out a little bit more, grazing on the sandbed. The lights are off now though, with the moonlights on only.

I hope he'll be a bit less shy tomorrow.

Well this morning, the goby is out a bit more. scooting back and forth along (mostly) the back wall of the tank, munching away at something or other. I'm glad to see that he's got an appetite. I added a bit of cyclopeeze to the tank to see if it'll stimulate him even more to eat something. He's still shy though. He doesn't seem to mind me coming close to the glass, but as soon as I bring out the camera for a macro shot, he retreats into a cave.

...must be embarrased to be so skinny. :)

Just a quick update. The goby is out and about. NIpping at the live rock and sifting sand here and there. He looks a bit fatter today. I'm glad to see he's eating at least. Still very camera shy though.

Here are a few update pics. The goby is doing well, visibly fattening up (pic #2 compared to pic#5). Heââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s still quite slim, but recovery isnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t far away. I threw in a full tank shot and pics of growing macroââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s.

The LFS is supposed to get a (various) Percula order from ORA. Canââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t wait till Friday when it gets in!

I have that same kind of red and reen alge growing on my glass and san. What do you do to combat that stuff ?

Which one?, the one with the green bulbs on a stalk, or the green/red patches on the sand? If it's the patchy stuff, it's mostly cyanobacteria. Most new tanks go though several stages of algae. If your tank is well established, and the red slime persists, look getting getting some Phosban to reduce your phosphate levels, and increasing water flow isn't a bad idea either. If your light bulbs are old, over 10 mths, that could be a cause as well.

Well the goby is doing quite well. It's starting to look healthy and fatter. Still very shy though. I can see him now in a reflection off the front of the tank, nipping at some cyanno that's growing on my small rock w/macro algea. Gearing up for another water change...

That's what I have been doing. A bit of cyclopeeze and a bit of finely crushed flake food. I've been trying to bury a little bit where he usually grazes and sifts sand. Seems to be working so far. His belly isn't a depression anymore, not plump yet like pics I've seen on google, but getting there.

It was the first time today that I've actually seen him nipping at some cyanno patches. I'm almost tempted to pull out my phosban from my Aquaclear, to make sure the cyanno continues to stick around for him.

I haven't seen him in a couple of hours. He's not in his usual hiding spots. Sneaky little thing... :) I'll try and catch him on camera tomorrow to show his progress.

So what's new you ask?

I haven't added any corals. Things are really stable, not much algae, just a few spots of HA and a bit of cyanno on my rock that has the macro on it. Purple corraline is starting to show up on the glass and on the Seio. I dose with Tropic Marin Bio-Calcium. Works great for me...

A few weeks ago I was at the LFS browsing, and $60 later, I had a pair of ORA 1.5" mis-barred black & white ocellaris. Very cute... The pair was through QT'ing at the LFS. They acclimated quickly and eat very well so far. The female is darker and only mis-barred on her left side. The male is a bit smaller, a bit more orange, especially his nose. They've never faught yet, and the male does his lil' twiching thang... Here's the pics.

Oh... and the Rainford Goby is doing well. Terribly shy though... I need to be at least 5 ft away from the tank for him to scury about the tank without feeling threatened. Loves cyanno this one... I turned down the output of the Seio 1100, to make sure flow was low enough to have cyanno grow a little, for the goby.

About a week ago I was at the LFS again, just to browse I told myself... $100 later I came out with a lil' 2-3" GBTA with pinkish tips. It was in very good condition, firmly attached to some LR, fully expanded bubble tips and all. Expensive lil' thing though.

After drip-acclimation. Into the tank it went. I placed it close to the clown's sleeping spot. It was firmly attached about an hour later. Here's the pics...

Here's more of the BTA. I think this was the next day... don't remember.

And here are the clowns... not paying attention as usual.

Later that night after lights out, I found the male hanging around the BTA.

More of the BTA the next day. It moved a little, but not much.

Again the clowns, not paying attention...
