2nd Try RBTA

Picked up a RBTA last night. Good Size so maybe my clowns won't beat it up and kill it like the last one. Settled right in and hasn't moved... yet ;)

Heres hoping I'm successful. The clowns haven't hosted him yet. But they are investigating...

Question, When should i attempt its first feeding? Wait a few days till he settles in or feed him today? Just put him in the tank lastnight around 10:00pm.

Picture was shot with my Droid.

You really don't need to feed it at all. There's a good chance that your clowns will take care of that for you. If you do feed, I have always waited at least 1 week before trying to feed.

It looks pretty healthy and looks like it has settled in already. I would wait another couple days and give it a shot.

I really don't have any experience with these but hey you have to start some were correct. He is on a rock at the bottom of my 90 gallon 26" inches from my TEK T5 lighting. Should I just leave him alone or move the rock higher up the tank?

Also generally speaking what kind of flow do they like?

what type of clowns would you like to host it?? I have a rbta in both tanks, the 60g has maroons and instantly hosted it..even before the nem wanted them to lol

The 120 also has a rbta that is really happy for months and neither of the Ocellaris clowns want to host it,they host just about everything else in the tank though lol

cool fact I learned from a tv show a couple days ago...There are over 120 species of known anemones and out of them only 10 will host clownfishes

medium flow. The two that I have had liked their columns to be tucked into a rock and their tentacles out in the flow. Leave it where it is. If it wants more/less flow or light, it will move where appropriate.

Thanks for the help and information. What I did was made two separate islands divided by the overflow. This way if he wants to walk right up there there shouldn't be any problems. This is a photo of my left side stack in my 90 gallon. Oh and the clowns I have are True Percs. They host my Duncan's, Frogspawn and Todd's Torch. I'm hoping they move to the RBTA.

I had one for a lil bit, it died though :-( I did some reading on these and it said as soon as they will eat you can feed them. So if he'll accept food you can feed him. Best of luck and soon enough Im going yo be getting another!! When the clowns host them their bubble tops go away due to ghr clowns but the btw won't be hurt just not bubble anymore!!

Thanks for the information. I'll try and feed him tomorrow after work when I get some other food. So far he has stayed put. Must be he is happy there.

He looks happy to me, I have a similar sized one and it ate after a few days, now i am feeding it silversides and he seems to enjoy them very much.

I have 2 in my 75g they are at the very top of my rock stack and very happy as much as i can tell my tomato clown bounces between the 2 one is the clone of the other. my big one i would say is easily 6 -7" big and my clown feed them everything from flake, mysis to small broccoli sprouts..FYI they go where they want you cant make them stay where YOU want them its a pita at times but they have found their spot now hopefully thats where they stay..

Also wondering what everyone uses to cover up there Power heads with? I have a K4 as you can see in the picture. Should I be concerned with covering the opening with something?

I would be highly concerned. That's the only thing I saw when I looked at that picture: BTA + powerhead. Might try some of that nice clear screening they sell at BRS, perhaps you could rig something with that.

Beautiful specimen, btw. It'll figure out where it wants to be. I'd go ahead and feed it tomorrow. Piece of silverside about a cm long or less.

gl! :)

That didn't take long. My mated pair of True Percs took to hosting the anemone today. Both the Percs and RBTA look happy. So far the anemone hasn't moved. I know he will when he wants too but so far he has stayed put. He has the whole side to himself so climb away if he must. :). I'm just glad they hosted up. Not bad for only being a few days.
