3 Clicks, a dead hermit, and a dead Turbo

Hi all,

I've recently upgraded to a 75g tank and added a bunch of live rock. I've been hearing 3 clicks (or snaps, pops) at a time every now and again. Several days ago I found a dead Turbo, I didn't think much of it. Then last night I found the remains of a red-legged hermit. All that were left were 3 or 4 legs in a small pile.

I've received suggestions that it is either a mantis or a pistol shrimp. Anyone know how many clicks each of these make? I've heard contradictory answers as to how many clicks each make. Also, any idea if a pistol shrimp is predatory?

As for trapping the critter, I was told to use a soda bottle with a clam inside. Do I use a live clam, or will raw clam from the grocery store work? What size bottle do I use and how do place it to work as a trap?

Thanks,

A raw clam should be fine.

Cut off the top of the soda bottle, then put the clam in the bottom part. Invert the top part and put it into the bottom part. That gives the mantis a "ramp" up to enter the bottle, but getting out is much more difficult....

I would put the trap close to where you found the remains of the hermit crab.
