3 inch clown tang keeps trying to nip at show size yellow tangs tail

But if someone took you to a 20' tank and showed you how another 5" PBT was dashing around in a 4000 gallon tank, you'd feel bad about the 8' tank. Truth is, they were pulled from a really big tank (ocean) and we bought them for our tank for our own enjoyment. So I would rather argue that if the fish aren't getting along period, return the fish.

Well sure, this is a common argument. But suggested tank sizes are not just guesses or the opinion of one successful hobbyist. The tang tank sizes on RC were put together by a group of excellent and experienced people. When LA changed their tank size recommendations a few years ago, they did it with some of the best folks in the hobby. LA did this knowing it would cost considerable lost sales if customers followed the new guidelines. IMO, it was a great service to the hobby. Which will pay dividends in increased sales.

Seriously, I'm sure the 15g sump will be much better for the fish. Chaotic you should do yourself a favor and read a book or two on husbandry of fish because you clearly are seriously lacking knowledge along with the LFS you purchased the fish from. The thread started out bad with " show size yellow tang ", just didn't realize it was in a 90g.

You should really try to return the clown tang to the LFS, and if they refuse take your business elsewhere. In the future it would be wise to research new additions along with minimum tank sizes for the sake of the new fish and your current ones (I'm sure this was rough on the yellow tang). Liveaquaria is a great source of basic information if you ever want the requirements/risks of a fish in a nutshell.

After 5 years, my clown tang has started to show some of that aggression. Put the slice on my powder blue tang a couple of weeks ago, but that healed and all seemed back to usual. I never saw the battle. Never saw issues. 2 days ago I saw another slash on the PBT and it was staying in a corner but would still eat food that came by it. Last night, PBT was at the top middle front of the tank more chewed up and a new slice. I have moved him into a very temp situation for the night until I get home....40 gallon cube. Measures a tad over 7", the clown tang is 9". It has even started to swarm around my clown trigger, 11", as it munches pellets or rock. The crunching sound drives the clown tang nuts. There was some algae on the glass, so I gave it a good cleaning to see if the walls are closing in feeling had to do with it.

I really doubt it's a clean glass issue but I wish you luck. Seems to be a classic example of a Clown Tang doing what Clown Tangs do.
