Wanted to work on a couple of tips so I took some photos and ran them through Lightroom. Great program. Ken (Reef Bass) gave me a couple of good suggestions -
de-ice (never heard that term before) or clean up the background and add a watermark. Using Lightroom both these tasks took only minutes. Someone here was asking what was lightroom for and I would have to say it is the perfect solution for photographers that want to take pics and get them processed quickly and efficiently. I would be totally lost in the CS4 world... Here are a couple of de-iced and watermarked photos.

One of my favorites - Setosa

Microcladus -

Mille -

Shots are great I love the first one and that you can see the bristle stars arm in the bottom left cornor it added some great depth!

ALSO what is de-ice? AND is the watermark the copyright symbol and your name in the first pic? if so I have not figured out how to do that yet in LightRoom, I see when I export pictures that it has an option to check mark next to "watermark" But didn't see anywhere to put in your name?

The setosa is very nice! That was me trying to dig in to LR, and it is awesome now that I am figuring it out. I am also unfamiliar with de-ice.

Ok I think I have the watermark thing figured out. When you are in the lightroom library module select all the pics you want to water mark. Then expand the metadata tab and at the bottom there is a copyright box. Paste in your copyright and it will apply to all selected photos. Finally check the box on the export window when you are exporting. On my last set I must not have had them all selected. Here is the little copyright c you can copy -

© 2009

There is probably a more automatic way to do it but this is the only way I know.

I think the term 'de-ice' belongs to Reef Bass. I had never heard it before either. Just means to clean up all the floaters in the background of your image. It does make the pic look much better.

Some more pics to test the watermark.

Thanks a lot ken! That was the most i have seen posted on watermark in light room !!! I have always put one on that I made myself but that works SO much easier since im processing them in LR already.

Also I definitely think your right about "de-icing" making the pictures look better, Thanks for clearing that up!

southstar066 - Not a Pink Smoothie. Just a plain ole Green with red polyp Monitpora Digitata. It's a weed. I do have the Pink Smoothie though but it looks nothing like what it's supposed to. It's more brown with red polyps. I think it needs more light. If you have any tips on where it should go in the tank I'm all ears.

I was exporting photos today and I realized I left out a step above.

In library module highlight a pic and add the copyright info at the bottom of the Metadata tab. With the watermarked pic still selected highlight the pics you want to add the watermark to. Click the Sync Metadata button and a dialog box will pop up allowing you to check/uncheck all kinds of things. Check the copyright checkbox and click synchronize.

Sorry for any confusion.

Go Ken go! Very nice. The mille is my fav. I like the digitata shot too. The setosa is interesting because setosas are inherently interesting, imho.

And just for the record, de-ice = remove marine snow.

Ken

Thanks Ken. Mille was my favorite as well. That one was shot using a top down box. Problem with the top down box is I can't figure out a way to really steady the thing like with a tripod so the shots come out soft a lot.

Yeah, the growth pattern on the Setosa is different thats for sure!

Ken

One solution to your top down issue - a tripod that will do a horizontal center column for rock solid steady top down shots.

Hey Ken,
I will have to look at mine and see if it does that, if not I feel a credit card purchase coming on LOL. Is there one that you would recommend?
