Re: Colonies

They look fine they have some nice color! give them time to acclimate and color up! Chef!

Maybe I'm just being paranoid but look at pic #1, if you look through the branches towards the base especially towards the top there are white patches scattered around.

Today same whiteness. not better or worse but my 3rd colony is turning white a little white. could it be that they just went from not so much light to my tank which has 6 ho t5 bulbs and the colonies are at the very top? I'm out of ideas of what it could be.

I have 20+ nitrates, so I don't think that's an issue at all. I would guess its either light or nutrients that could be the cause. Try moving them lower...it couldn't hurt. I hope its not STN.

Wow you nitrates are at 2.5? You should bring that down I close to zero ASAP if your keeping sps.

My sps has always done fine and 2.5 is the lowest iv ever had it in my tank being that i just hooked up a reactor.

The first colony is doing a little better today but the second pic colony has one branch completely dead (out of 15+ branches). I cut the dead one off but colony is still not doing well. Do i wait a little longer and lower it? Frag it? Leave it where its at? This is my favorite piece in my whole tank...

Will post updated picture when i get home*

Ya nitrates for sps dominated at 2.5 is perfect my tanks at 5 and I have great growth. Your all is a little low. Raise it up to 8.0-8.5 is good. All other params are perfect. These look like maricultured pieces like said above start them off from the bottom and work up. I'd they are maricultured there from the ocean and no used to artificial lighting. The sps look fine and just monitor. I can't really se any white. Nice colonies

I took the pics on my phone so I agree it is hard to see in the pictures the white but I think your write about the light issue because these are maricultured and I threw them at the very top of my tank because I wanted them to get good growth and not starve from light. I guess 6 HO T5s 5" above the water might not have been a good idea to throw a colony 6" below water. I just lowered it to the bottom and will post the progress tomorrow. Thanks for help.

I lowered the colony 2 days ago and it looks like some areas are getting better but some branches are white all the way to the tip now. I took a pic on my phone but in the pic the color actually looks more vibrant then it really is (funny how it doesnt do that when I take frag pics and want it to look more colorful)

I tried pointing out the areas that are really white still.

*alk has been raised 1 ppm a day and is now at 8.7ish
