30 gallon shallow

I am in the process of setting up a 30 Gallon shallow islet style tank. I want to do more of an aggressive tank then a reef tank. I was thinking of adding 2 dwarf lionfish. But I am also leaning towards an angler/leaf/frog (Not all together) or something similar. Basically I am looking for some suggestions of stocking the tank with a few aggressive fish. I know quite a bit about stocking a reef tank, but aggressive fish are not my thing.

Just to give you a brief idea of what the setup is going to look like.
30 gallon tank (24x24x12)
15 gallon sump (basic configuration with filter floss and skimmer)
Led light fixture
Cad-Light PLS-100 skimmer

Thanks

Hi there!
Will do my best to give advice on lions but your best bet is namxas for stuff like this :)

Think the one dwarf lion might be okay, but 2 may be pushing it. A better bet would be the fu manchu lion, as they stay smaller than the dwarf fuzzy's etc. (they get 4 inch max IRC)

Also, why not go for something like a few damsels, and 1 or pair of golden dwarf moray eels? really funky dudes and cool predators :) Have one myself in a 75 gallon and love it!

Not to sure about the anglers/leaf/frog fishes, but have heard you can only keep one as they will eat others and just about any fish they fancy.

Hope this helps a bit!

This is going to be an open top tank. Wouldn’t the eels escape? Also when it came to lions I will definitely have a Fu Manchu that is one of my favorites. I can put damsels etc. in my reef tanks. I am looking to change things up a bit with this tank.

Lionfishes love to jump, so an open top setup might be an issue, depending on your loss tolerance. Trust me on this...

A single dwarf lion would be OK in that setup, however, and fu's do have the smallest mouths of the dwarf species.

Aren't hawk fish aggressive? I had one years ago that picked on all the other fish. I eventually gave him to the LFS so he would kill my fish.

I've never had one but I think certain species are worse than others. I think long nose hawks are more easy going
