30 long !!!!

Never even knew they made a 30 long. In my other post I was kind of undecided on whether to go frag tank or reef. I have decided to do a reef tank. For my new build I was a little undecided on the tank size 20 h, 20 L or 29. I had the 20 H already but it just did not seam big enough. So I finally decided on the 29 and stopped down to CC on Front st. to buy one. Right next to it was a 30 long. I was surprised at just how much more real estate it had. Its dimensions are pretty much the same as the 29 except the height and length. Height is one inch shorter than a 29 but the length is a whopping 36" long. The minute I saw it I knew that was it. So my new reef tank will be a 30L lol. Let the build begin.

Yeah, the 30 has much better dimensions than the 29. My first reef tank ever was a 29. What a disaster! Good luck with the build Dave.

I've got a 30long... hard to get the aquascaping right (IMO) because of the narrow depth, but it's a great size to work with otherwise.

Ya I bet it is Jackson. For some reason I thought you went with a 29. I will have to go back to your post and check out the rock work. Most of the pieces from my 90 are huge. I have a piece that won't even fit in the 30. I won't trim it because it fit nice in the 90 and will go back in when I get it going again sometime in the future.

I just redid mine yesterday, so new pics will be coming soon.

umm with the high of the tank and the width your really not going say as high as Nate went with his rock work so personally i don't see the use for rods in the rock work. but putty and some zip ties work great i can try and find this sps tank that one thread of the month way back that had amazing aquascape that for ever changed me from making walls..lol.. as far as the putty goes I think it was the green with white center at HD or lowes. but just to be sure i'd post on the chem forum to as about it.

Edit here it is http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1288059

Big chalice cap and clam! Is the maroon coral just next to the cap (left side) an encrusting monti? I have one that I got from A Reef Creation and it's one of my favs.

no problem. looking at it more and more though I'm gonna need something bigger once my frags really start to grow as they are close already. debating adding another mp10 on the other side to increase flow and make it more even. right now I keep moving it from side to side.

I can see where SPS size could be a problem in smaller tanks like ours. Keep them low and you should be ok for awhile. As for flow what is the mp10 set at. I see they go as high as 1,575. If you have it set at that flow rate it is 52 times turn over and that’s pretty good flow for a 30. But I do get what you mean about the flow pattern. Nwrogers was the one who helped me quite a bit with my flow pattern when I fist got into SPS. I would post that question in the main forum. We are lucky to have some of the best reefers right here in the STRS to ask or even check out there tanks for ideas and such.

I do have it all the way up. switch back and forth between reefcrest and short pulse. just notice the other half of the tank seems to lose some flow and I do have some algae buildup. notice the dead spot on one of my green digi has what looks to be a little cyano although I don't see it anywhere else in the tank. would move it to the back wall but worry about sandstorms.

top of a rockstack with return from sump behind it. didn't want it blowing directly on it. have many frags in the area and it only seems to be the dead part of the one frag
