Setup:

300 gallon marineland deep dimension
75 gallon sump with 4inch deep sand bed and 30lb marco base rocks
1350gph Deep blue pump
2 23watt CFL lights 5100K for cheato algea in refugium
450 gallon rated G4X protien skimmer
2 1400gph powerheads
FX5 filled with ceramic media
2 20watt 36inch fixtures for main tank lighting
80lb dead sand in main display
45lb base rock
27lb live rock

Side notes:

Currently using shrimp to cycle the tank. Ammonia is .75ppm everything else is 0. PH 8.2 temp = 73 SG=1.022. There is a layer of dust on everything b/c a powerhead went crazy and turned the tank into a cloud for three days.

Questions:

Will live rock introduce pods to the sand or do i need to buy them?
Should i buy the cheato algea now or should i wait until the tank is cycled and there is measurable nitrates?

Looking good..post some more pics :-)

I have the same size tank but haven't added water yet as my stand needed to be replaced. I am also using a 75 for a sump and would be curious to see some pics of your sump

Looking good, but you are going to need a LOT more rock (like 200lbs more). As far as the pods the rock will introduce some and if you get chaeto from an established tank it should introduce more. The pods will not thrive until you have an established refugium with chaeto. That being said I would wait to introduce chaeto until your cycle is done so you don't kill off all the beneficial critters that will come in on the chaeto.

I have had the same tank set up for about nine months now. I'm using a 40g breeder for a sump and a 20g to hold the top off water (I use a Tunze Osmolator for the top off). My skimmer is not in the sump, which probably is why it works with the smaller tank.

Everything is running fine. There have been fish in it since about May of last year. I hastened the cycling by essentially introducing organic waste from the 125g that it was replacing.

I'm using an MRC MR-3 skimmer with dual Becketts, fed by a Dart. I have a Snapper feeding the returns. The sump is drilled for the intakes for both of those pumps. There is a check value to help prevent the sump from overflowing when the return pump is off.

I also have a GFO/GAC reactor (again from MRC - they are local to me) fed from the sump.

Unfortunately, I didn't notice until it was filled that the floor is not even. The tank is on enough of an incline that the overflow on the left gets the vast majority of the flow. So far no complications, though I think it would take a metal shim to effectively level the tank, one that is the entire width of the tank.

A fluidized media chamber with GFO (granular ferric oxide, to remove phosphate) and GAC (granular activated carbon, to remove organics). Water is pumped to the bottom, where it is forced up through the media, then out. Better than using bags because you are ensuring that the water must flow through the media.

My Reef Creations is not a sponsor of RC, so I will not tempt the wrath of the mods by posting the link to their website. They don't sell retail anymore, anyway. But there are many companies that make them. Check out places like Live Aquaria or Marine Depot.
