Just wondering........ doing all this under the house are you building a room under there or leaving it dirt ?

Howdy everyone,

Hello chainsaw5vent, I will see if I can post some pictures of the Rods we built this year and a few of our own here at the house. Anybody tell me how to link a album for photobucket to here I'll post the link for them if your interested.

Hello firechief, I don't know how to post the little banner but I see this was your first post in Reef central land.

So
Welcome

and dont let this be your last post to my thread.

Bax... hopefully it works and you wont have to read my wife typing in the elevator broke and all is lost.

Hi tanya72806, A answer to your question. This will be a built room under my house framed out and walled. This is probably the most work in doing the tank and there is a huge amount of labor involved. But I'm not complaining......much

And if I could do one thing at a time I would get done sooner but this is part of our kitchen remodel which came after our entry redo which was right after our upstairs remodel. So there is never a dull moment here. This going on our second year in the house we have not had a dull moment yet. The first 8 wks after we moved in I built a 3000 sq ft shop on the adjoining lot so I could finish our hot rods we had in stages of completion. Well no sooner than the walls were up and we have not had a break building other peoples cars.

I am still digging little here and there. So slow going and there is just no way I am giving in on a smaller size room. When I take the sheets of 4 by 8 drywall downstairs I am going to have to break out some window bricks along the foundation and cut a little so I can get the full sheets down there. I think the tanks going to be the easy part.

I got the 72 all put up and running so its just a matter of a couple weeks till the boys in the 46 get there new home.

grallster... you hit it on the head when you said breakfast, lunch and dinner. Leo in his feeding frenzy has actually swallowed Ron halfway because Ron had a cube of food Leo wanted. We have learned to feed Leo first and the other guys give him a wide berth.

Well I hope the reading is enjoyful and the thread is good enough to keep posting and enjoying.

Till next time.
Mike

It works!!! Alot easier too!

Ok here goes
[welcome]

did it work.

I feel like one of the seven dwarves under my house laboriously digging, hacking, beating, stupid bloody ROCKS. Its getting there one half shovel at a time. I was going to put in a concrete floor but that would mean we would have to sack it. I dont know about you but I have sacked about 130 bags in one day. Its no fun and the people that help you do it once will never ever ever do it again. So being close to x-mas work on tank is slower but still progressing in the hole. My 72 is up and I'll include a few pics of it to suffice everyone for pics. I am going to Seattle on Sunday for some x-mas shopping and I found a sohal tang I am going to pick up while I am there. He will find space in the 72 while I finish the 300. I think I will use my 72 as a transition tank to the 300 as long as Leo does not think of anyone as food. I thought of tying the 72 into the main system once it is up and running. But still keep it self supported while I aclimate newbees to the system.

Put 4 green chromis in the 72 they are doing great. Maybe swap everybody else out next week. Here are some pics of it.

CIMG0100.jpg

Full tank shot need to get a new 4ft t5 setup. Unless someones got one to sell.

Left side of tank.

Right side of tank.

I will put the 20 gallon under for a sump and put two sea swirls on it and get rid of the powerheads in the middle. Not bad for now.

Our family x-mas is this Saturday and shoping on Sunday so no tank work this weekend. Bummer!! But top cupboards are up in the kitchen so I think I am in the clear till after x-mas and can finish my excavation.

Still need to cut my slots in the tank so that when overflow box comes I can glue it in. Need a 96hr day to get 12 hours of work in.

I working on the car album once I get it done I will get it posted. We went to SEMA this year truly amazing what there is to offer. Something like 3.5 million sq ft of car stuff. My son and I were in asphalt overload.:bum: Picking up a car magazine is old news now since we seen everything thats going to be in it for the next year at the event.

Checking out and watching my chromis with a beer.
Later

Well I am tagging along with interest but I can not look at any more of the pictures where you have and have yet to dig in the crawl space. It makes my back hurt like he dbl toothpicks and even more so when you describe how much more you have to remove.

FWIW, I helped relatives carve out a ten foot basement on an existing home with crawl space but we could use a bobcat. I don't see that option in your case.

Anywho, I like your concept and look forward to seeing it come together. And btw, if you lived closer I would donate an afternoon of digging to help you geterdone.

I am really enjoying this build. Lots of work and things to think through, and the moving panel for the bedroom is sweet.

The only concern I have is about having all that water volume below ground level. Ground temps around here are about 45 - 55F depending on the season, so won't this be too cool? I would think your heaters would be on constant to keep up with the heat loss. Am I missing something?
