Ship

Ship

I,m still here... I would love to see some photos of this tank now, or some ideas on all that MM cement on that ship, this is what its all about when we say DIY, you just can not buy this in a store, so, for all you DIY out there keep it up.

Thanks :bounce3:

Lets see if I can put a update to this thread on my tank. It is a little embarassing to not keep your thread up to date. Apologies to all. So today 11-4-2008. Tank has been running for 7ths 3days. Yep I filled it on Aprils fools days. It will be a easy date to remember. I will load a couple of pics and see if I can update some more.

See if I remember how to do this.

Well after lighting the tank with one 400 watt I had so much bleed out on the light it did not look the way I intended it to. I also had so much rock it was kinda weird not using it for the corals. I thought the tank would get unbalanced so I pulled it out. It was a pain putting it in there put it was WAY WORSE getting it out. So then I aquamend all the rocks together and put acrylic rods on the rocks to lift them about 3 inches off the sand. So now all the rockwork is glued together and lifted off the sandbase to not have any dead spots in the sand base. See if I can post a pic of it.

I built my rockwork on the stand so I knew what would fit in the tank.

So no sorry I think if I had a 10ft or 12ft tank the ship would work but not in our 7 footer.

But todays special buy was a nice one.

Today's update.

We had a major snafu at work and did not have a bid bond ready for a job bidding today. So I had to meet the fed ex guy at the plane station where overnight items came in and grab it. It just happened that I had a Blue Zoo order coming in overnight to. Never ordered corals overnight so I was hesitant to say the least. IT LOOKS GREAT.
Awesome stuff just like the picture could not have asked for a better representation of product. Look at these pics.

I will upload the basement tonight. We are heading to Seattle today and going to see Dang's reef (Reefkeepings TOTM June 2008) and get some frags from him. Picture update tonight.

Thanks Mike

You know your thread is old when you dont remember what you put up for pics or where you left off. I will just say if I was reading this thread I would be confused as all get out. I hope you overlook my timeframe it took me to get this done. I am a crappy thread keeper lets just say that.

Overgreen - This update is for you. The lift on the bedroom side works great. The linear is smooth it stops perfectly every time. The only issue is how I try to run it up and down. I have bought two remote control relay switches. Only to burn them both up. Some stupid guy wired wrong or did something weird and they both smoked (oh that stupid guy is me) So right now its just worked off the power supply. The downstairs room is done. Just needing cleaning attention and details. Pics to follow.

Excavation under the house was to say the least. Humiliating. A good idea gone wrong. But nonetheless we did it. Final excavation was about 11' by 11' by about 48" deep. All caliche soil and about 30 to 40 rocks 200 to 400 pounds. I bribed every friend my son had to help. Most lasted about 4 times except for Tyler he stayed to the end.

Hole got cut in the floor for the man lift to get me to the fishroom.

This is the view looking straight up.

070.jpg

We sliced a 10" sewer pipe in half and attached it to the hole and supported it on the formwork to get concrete downstairs. All concrete was wheelbarrowed in the house and down the hole. 9 yards in all.

069.jpg

I took the top of the formwork put it 4" above dirt level and moved the walls out 30" to 36" this gave me a finished room on the shelf of about 15' by 15' and a floor of about 10' by 10'.

072.jpg

Lift was built and all was welded in just before the concrete pour so the bottom section was poured in the concrete.

074.jpg

Pic is day after pour taking the chute down.

076.jpg

Forms down ready for walls and tile.

078.jpg

We dug and buried a five gallon bucket for a sump pump to get rid of waste water. Pushes right to sewer line above bucket.

Form boards were within 1" to use for my walls so we pulled them off painted them to seal them up and put them on the top to make the four walls for the room.

091.jpg

One wall is my foundation to the house which we tied our concrete pour into.

246.jpg

Little electrical and a sub-panel wired in from the main panel.

248.jpg

Insulation in the walls.

250.jpg

Osb sheeting put up and all tied together.

256.jpg

Behind the lift we even got the walls up in good fashion.
