300 gallon stand help ?

SALT WATER CRAZ

Ok I am setting up a 300 gallon acrylic tank. I have insulation/foam, I am thinking abought puting it down on the box tubing than a peice of plywood over it. Than the tank on that.

So the foam will take up the welds on the stand.
Do many people do it this way?

Like this pic. Have people done it this way and had good luck?

I have only seen it op top of the plywood, not below. While we are at it, what is the recommended foam to use? Hopme depot pink stuff? I am going to set up my 450 acrylic tomorrow and wish to know.

if you can sand down the welds.. you want the tank on the foam...

you can use any foam.. its actually "insulation" i used the 1/2" stuff...

Ok, and the million dollar question, what size? 1/2 or 3/4?

Sorry about the derail my friend.

As far as I have ever read and seen, you put the ply down on the frame and foam on top to fill out any uneven areas and any flaws between the ply and the tank and even out the possible un level areas. This is all I have ever read and heard. It also gives you some cush between the tank and a hard surface.

I have 1/2" foam 3/4" ply

I grinded down the welds as much as I could, but I dont want to take them down any more than thay are. as you can see in the pic. it is a 2 piece stand so I could fit it in the house. I was thinking abought the foam on the bottom so it will fill any voids.

I would think doing it either way would work. The point of the foam is to take out any imperfections. It will still do this with the wood on top. THe only problem I see with this, is if the manufacture would void any warrantys? I would see what they want, and do it that way.

I, like most put the plywood on the metal stand, then the foam, then the tank. I think the key is to protect the tank. That said in your case to protect the welds....put one under the plywood and one over it....assuming it will fit with your stand facade.

FYI...when I put my 400 gallon on the pink HD foam, filled the tank, put in sand and live rock....it barely compressed. I was surprised.
