Well after loosing my 240g tank from an accident. More info on what happened can be viewed HERE

I have been planning my new tank a 300g 96" X 24" X 30" room divider viewed from 2 sides separating the dinning room and living room. Both 8' viewing panes of glass will be Starphire glass. Tank will have no overflow box going with 2 2" bulkheads for surface skimming same idea as this picture.

Tank will have a closed loop ran from a GenX PC55 with 2 educators for the returns. Sump and all pumps will be in basement. Return pump from sump will still be my old pump Gen X 18000 4750Gph.

I will be updating this thread as the build comes together.

sounds like a fun project-- why no box?
Is there an advantage to the pipes?
I would think they might be loud.
Steve

The box takes up to much space in the tank. Since my tank will be viewable from both sides I don't want a ugly overflow box on one side. I don't loose the durso stand pipes they are just moved to the outside of the tank like this picture.

Noise will not be a problem its the same idea as having it in a overflow box.

I'm having the glass ordered and sent to my house. Me and another guy from my LFS will assemble. He has made allot of tanks.

Just a update. My Starphire glass came in today. Glass moving and tank building will start Thursday. I will have lots of pictures in my next update.

after the incident with glass before why did you go with glass again? i would be skeptical with glass!! Good luck! and keep the pics coming.

Yeah, HD - I remember reading the thread with you telling us about the 240 - I wanted to cry - for a 240 to go like that.... good to hear the 300 is comming along.

I guess I'm a sucker for punishment LOL! No really I like glass for its properties. The accident with my 240g was a freak accident I will never no what caused the tank to crack that way. Others did what I did and had no problems.

spamin76,

Thanks...

Mad Scientist,

I hope it will be worth the extra expense:)

Little bit of a set back today. The glass could not be delivered today. So Monday night will be the big build day.

how much did you pay for your 300 gallon starphire tank? Is all three side side starphire or just the front panel?

Not sure the cost yet of the Starphire yet. It will run in the $$$ thousands. I went with 2 96" X 30" panels. This will be a room divider so I got the front and back panels Starphire.

Hey Rob sorry to read about the 240, your a better man then me, I would have flipped! Best of luck with the new tank and please post lots of pics :D

Jeff

Thanks.... The worst thing is I had insurance on the tank. I'm fighting with the insurance company now regarding the tank. This is what really ****es me off that I was paying for insurance on the whole setup and now they will not pay:mad2:

But that is a whole new thread...........

The build of my tank can be found here in the Large tank forum. I did not want to have 2 threads going on the build. Got the glass in today pictures have been updated see them Here
