BTW, this 30 year anniversary thread reminded me of something.

My dad had fish tanks when I was a kid (part of why I am into it now) and when I first went to Tropi-quatics a few years ago I thought that it may be the store my dad took me to as a kid.

My dad passed away on Saturday and when I was flipping through his address book to find phone numbers to alert people I found the phone number for Tropi-quatics written in his handwriting between two very old and out of date entries (it is the same book my mom used when she was around and even back when I was a kid)

It's kinda cool knowing that I take my son and daughter to the same place my dad took me. This also reminds me of the importance of LFS's as local amabassadors to the hobby and that a kid isn't going to have fond memories of surfing a .com with his dad 30 years later...

Sorry for the loss of your dad. I'm glad you are keeping his hobby alive. :) My dad kept a tank too & that's what got me interested.

Sorry to hear about your father. I went through that a bit back, including going through all the old books and papers.

Their original store, which is probably the one you remember, was in the 400 blk of South Main in the plaza there. They moved maybe 10 years ago to the present store which used to be one of those old fashioned hardware stores (lombard Hardware). They had anything you needed and people who actually knew things. Gotta miss that.

Got my first aquarium at the old joint, mini-bow 7. Good days, good days :D

They have some nice stuff, I got a few plates, an orange one I had been watching for a while and a long tentacle plate. Rics at @ 13$ ea and a few cleaner shrimp. The store is minutes from my house, the owner is a little old fashioned with his policies and such, but it has changed for the better in the last few years. The nicer coral comes from reef depot, I hope business stays good on that stuff so they can stock more of the hard to find coral...HTH

It started at about 70 ish a few weeks ago and today w the 25% off it was 50. Maybe 3" or so, not big at all. The long tent plate is about 6" across and it was the same price..

By old fashioned I am referring to the lack guarantees and to the type of consumer they tend to cater too...nothing really exotic in the saltwater dept, until recently when they started buying from reef depot.
