HELLO
I just got a second hand 2 years old 3130 skimmer.
I installed it in the sump at the first compartment (where the overflow water goes).
The skimmer is installed at the edge of the mark line.

It is foaming at the edge of the short brown neck but the foam doesn’t go up…
What can be the problem? ? ?

Thanks

Hi THEMarineman,

Are you refering to the neck of the skimmer unit when you say the foam gets to the edge, and its not bubbling up the cylinder and into the cup.

Generally thats is a suitable level. As the protein matter builds up it is forced to the neck of the unit because of the bubbles produced. This is where the protein matter builds up and it will gradually build up and flow over the cylinder and into the skimmer cup.

You can turn the valve to allow more airflow and produce more bubbles but do not turn the valve up too much or then it will just rise up the cylinder and fill your skimmer cup with water.

Cheers
Ryan

Hi Ryan,
Actually the valve is fully opened!!!
Still nothing….
Is it possible that the location of the skimmer near the p.v.c pipe outlet (the pipe that takes water from the overflow to the sump) generates to much current around the skimmer?
I thought that since it’s a passive skimmer it will benefit from the strong water flow.

The strong current is detrimental. How deep is the skimmer submerged? It is possible that the silencer has a leak and is taking in water. Older 3130's would develop leaks over time. The silencers can be replaced.
