330 Gallon (Acrylic Tank Mfg. 72"l x36"w x30"hx1"thick) SPS Three Years in the M

I sent you an email Mark but I will post it here also.

I am almost finished setting up the same size tank. I have to build the canopy yet. The one on it now is off my 180 so it is a foot too narrow. Works in a pinch. I built my own stand from throwaway lumber from a new house build. I think I have a whole $2.00 in it for some joist hangars. Here is a link to my build thread on Reef Frontiers. If you have any questions about the stand let me know.

Update: I'm trying to get ATM to do the tank 42 inches wide instead of the 36 previously specified.

Thanks Les for the stand info. I'm weighing the pros and cons of either going with wood or stainless steel. If I go wood I think your build will be the basis for my stand.

I like an open look in terms of the stand instead of a "cabinet with doors".
With my external pump room I can get away with minimal equipment under the tank: light ballasts, closed loop pump.

Happy New Year to All!

Just got a Neptune Systems Aquacontroller III. Should arrive next week. Anybody using one of these?
Any cool hints or unique tips for this thing?

I used some luan plywood for covers around the stand and used velcro to attach them. I can pull the covers and have full access to anything underneath without any doors in the way. I will get a little fancier later on but not extravagant. In my case the luan cuts down the noise factor from the pumps as it is in the family room.

Good Luck with your design.

I finalized with ATM, its going to be 42 inches wide, instead of 36.

Now its a 390 Gallon!!!

I think the width is necessary for my aquascaping.

Mark,
I've been using the ACIII pro for a couple of years. Personally I would never go without one now. Ummm, let me see, best tip I've discovered so far:
If you lose power any manual settings for outlets (Manual On or Off) are lost. If you want something to be always on or off I use the following in the programming:
If Time > 00:00 Then PM1 On (or off)
Since the time is always greater than 0, it will set that outlet as always on or off.

Any other questions, just PM me.

Thanks for the tip HDAlien!

LNell, I like the width. It allows me to have more open sand area.

The tank is going to be a Peninsula style viewable from 3 and a half sides.

I have some 2 inch by 4 inch aluminium channel. They are 5/8 inch thick and 20 feet long.

I want to use them to build my stand. They were leftovers from a factory expansion that we did and so I can get them for free.

Does anybody have any experience with aluminium and its load bearing capacities?

How well does it stand up to salt water?

Any info on aluminium would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

Could we have a picture of the metal end. It sounds great but wouldnt want to give recomendations without a picture to see its dimensions.

As long as its braced properly you should be fine with the aluminum. Tig welded would be best. Mig welded a second choice. You could still coat it with a epoxy based paint to seal the salt from getting on the stand. I put a coating on my stand called por-15 awesome stuff like liquid powder coating in a can. Check out thier website.

I took a picture of the metal end of the aluminium today but my HTC TyTn pocket pc phone is not syncing with my pc so I'll post pics as soon as I can get them out of this P.O.S. phone.

Instead of can you hear me now. It's can you see me now.
Is your phone and your PC married, maybe thier fighting. LOL.

Should be a great chiller too.

Mike

They're about to get DIVORCED, the HTC TyTn seems to be a lemon or maybe HTC didn't do enough testing before release of the new phone. I have heard several people with the same complaint.

I am a member of the throw your phone as far as you can club.
Can you hear me nnnnnnnoooooowwww(smack).

Wow I just figured out where your at versus tank. Whats shipping going to be like. Ouch?

Shipping to Miami (Freight Forwarder) $400-500.

My company ships a container of goods per week into Jamaica so it will hitch a ride in one of these. The price is really not bad. Probably another $300-$400.
