Aluminium Frame

The aluminium frame coming together. Sorry for the bad image quality, it was taken by a phone camera.

There will be three aluminium "I" beams running the length of the frame welded into frame above.

The frame will sit ontop of two concrete columns (12"long x 44"wide x 30"high) tiled to match the living room floor.

A detail of the weld. There is a lot of sanding and polishing to do but you get the picture.

Sorry for the long delay in getting updates and pictures up, I had a hard time figuring out how to post pics and I still cannot get them to appear in the thread.

Aluminum looks great. So you are just making a top for the stand out of this?? Is the edge of the aluminum 5/8 thick if it is I wouldnt worry. But check your deflection on the aluminum when you put it on your stand. If the welder could you could always turn your channel around and weld the edge solid giving it a 4 x 4 solid instead of a open channel!!! just my opinion of course. Lol
Keep the pictures flowing.

Drill bottom or side for closed loop?

Drill bottom or side for closed loop?

I have my tank on my stand now and I need some advice from the experts. Should I drill the bottom for my closed loop or drill the side near the top so that if the bulkhead leaks I will still have 3/4 tank of water to sustain life? Drilling the bottom will be totally invisible to the viewer but drilling the side will be somewhat ugly due to the plumbing fittings that will be visible.
Do bulkheads inevitably leak?

on my setup, I have sch 80 hayward bulks and no leaks at all and total 8 holes drilled at the bottom. I believed if there is a leak you defiantly have a problem.

Your set up is looking really good! The DIY stuff looks nice as well! I'm glad that you set up a photobucket account so I don't have to scroll through a large picture!

very nice, might want to change that bent washer for something thicker and bigger since the hole was drilled to big, everything else looks great...was in ocho rios for family vacation Dec. 2006 and what can I say this place is beautiful and everyone is so nice and helpful..keep pics coming. will sump and pumps be located directly below tank?

Thanks Servo, yup I finally figured out the Picture posting.

cbui2, thanks for the comments, I'm glad to hear you had a good time in Jamaica, it really is a beautiful island. I went to LSU for 3 years before teansferring to Miami. I was having too much fun and not getting enough work done. It was sad to see the city so destroyed by Katrina but I know you all will build her back!
The filters, kalk and calc reactors and the skimmer are all in a room on the outside of the house, no garages or basements in Jamaica to house equipment so I had to build a room.
I'll post pics soon.

Aquacontroller Next to Tank or in Pump/Sump Room???

Aquacontroller Next to Tank or in Pump/Sump Room???

Should I put my Aquacontroller III Next to the Tank or in the Pump/Sump Room???

If I put it next to te tank the probes etc will be in tank and thus more accurate. However they are not very asthetically pleaseing.

If I put the ACIII in the Pump/Sump Room I won't see the probes etc but I also won't see the AC III regularly to check on Temp,pH, ORP.
I can however monitor tank parameters on computer via web browser.

Am I missing anything that would make this decision easier?

What do you or would you do?

Thanks,

I've been wondering the same thing lately as I'm about to get my ACjr. in the mail sometime soon. I have a spot for it either under my tank, on the side of the tank stand, or in the room behind the tank? Not sure which is best. I don't think theres any good reason to do one over the other though. Its just a matter of personal taste from what I can see. Nice tank build so far by the way. Keep posting lots of pics! Nice house too:)

Personally Id put the controller in the pump/sump room. My reasoning is that if its in the pump/sump room you will able to check your equipment etc while you are checking your parameters. Id assume that you would change parameters, by additions to the sump, and this is the room where you would store the additives to do so.

Also keep in mind where your main problems can occur. Im not saying its fool proof, but you will be more likely to pick up a problem sooner, if your around your equipment more often. I hope you never have a problem, but better to be on top of it sooner if something does happen.

Just my opinion :)

i just got back from jamica and dont know why you need a reef tank with all the reefs around you lol. good luck and i love the dims.
