336 A.G.E. Peninsula Tank

Hi,tank is coming along nicely. I think you might have rethink the flow in you tank. I had 2 vortech 1 tunze 6201 reeflo dart on a close loop and a hammerhead pump as a return from basement and my biggest problem was flow in the tank. Now I'm
Running 4x 6205 tunze pumps with dart and hammerhead and now things are finally rocking. All my problems in the 340gal were do to not enough flow.
Good luck with your setup

Novacaine- No I got them in Beijing, Wish I had got bigger ones like the cherry blossom one in the middle.

Djay- Well I currentlly have 4x 6105, 3x Vortech MP40w, and a Barracuda CL. The 6105's currently have enough punch to turn my tank into a snow globe if I am not careful by themselves, not to mention the other flow devices pack a punch. Honestly right now I hate running my Barracuda, sucks to much juice and the hum is really annoying. It would be nice to swap out the baracuda and snappers for Red Dragon pumps.

sounds good. I love following your thread since we have about the same setup. i just posted some updated pics on my thread. check it out when you get a chance.
Thanks

Djay

It's really nice to be able to walk around to the back side of the tank and get into the tank when it is so wide. I love the Peninsula style.

i most have miss it....where did u get your made from??.......
i' m looking around to getting one made......and if u have the site...

Tank skin is made by Hardwood Cabinet Company here in Houston, they are a small custom cabinet shop.

Tank is A.G.E. if that is what you are referring to.

Here is a shot inside the canopy, the VHO's and PFO 250w HQI's will be swapped out Friday for 3x 400w Lumenbrights with 20k reflux bulbs.

Not Yet, My HQI's were overdriving the bulbs around 335watts and the Icecap uses around 360watts, so by ditching the VHO's and moving to electronic 400w ballast it will balance out to be about the same load. I haven't checked each device with a ampmeter to see what the load is, but it should be ok. My electrical box is just a subpanel off the main so I am not sure what my main breaker is, I don't have access to the main. Just adding up the amperage of the individual breakers I am guessing that my sub-pannel is feed off a 500a main breaker so I still can squeeze another 30a circuit in there. Might take some convincing, but if I could get the other circuit in there I could actually hook up my chiller for some more stable temp's.

Brett: Why do you want the 20.000 kelvin light? Isn't it too blue in color or is it just me?

Would it be better with eg. 12.000 kelvin to get a higher PAR value and better coral growth?

What are your future light setup, I am thinking about T5's, MH's etc.?

BTW: Your aquascape rocks!

The amount of blue in 20k lamps is really subjective from lamp to lamp, I debated between the reeflux, radium, and helios for quite awhile, and decided I would give the reeflux a try.

At 1200watts in lumenbright fixtures I should get great growth out of my coral and better color from the 20k. I am running xm10k bulbs overdriven on my tank now and I hate the yellow color even with actinics.

When the technology comes around I will move to led's but for now it isn't quite there yet, untill then I will stick with MH and T5 for the frag tank.
Lighting a tank really does vary quite a bit, to light my tank with all T5 for example wouldn't be the most effective considering how many bulbs I would need and how often I would need to replace them.

So I finally got the new lights as well as the Aquacontroller III pro and associated goodies running. I will try and post some pic's later tonight. I would have to say I love the color when the ballasts are cranked up, the colors really POP and I don't need the actinic's for supplementation. Right now I am running a 2.5hr photo period so I don't scorch the SPS in the tank and they are all ready starting to color up after my diatom bloom fiasco. Now if I can get my sicce pumps on the BM300 to restart every time I turn them off I would be a happy camper. I might just swap it out for a BK supermarin 250.

I went over to T&T Fish and Reptile here in Houston last weekend and discovered that is a very dangerous place. I could find myself with a tank full of coral and an empty wallet before I know it if I keep venturing over there.

I suppose since Dave decided to give me a bump, I suppose I should put up an update as well.

Things are going well, I decided last month to swap out my Bubble Master 300 for the Bubble King supermarin 250. First thing I noticed was the significant downsize in skimmer size, but the quality of the Bubble King was well worth it. Takes up less space and out produces my Bubble Master thanks to the Red Dragon pump. The design produces a much more stable bubble column that is much easier to adjust then the BM's as well. The best part is I can start and stop the skimmer and not worry about the pumps getting stuck.

I also swapped out my PFO's for 3x 400w Lumenbrights with 20k reeflux bulbs, the color is great and I don't need to run my VHO's anymore which is a plus. While I was at it I also had 2x 20amp GFCI outlets added so i could isolate the tank to it's own circuit. For $75 a circuit it was pretty cheap and well worth it.

I will try and post some pictures this evening so you will have something to look at. Now I just need to sell the lights I pulled off the tank and use the money to go buy more coral.

Hey Guys,
Sorry for the lack of updates, been a busy guy. Dave here are some pictures to make you happy, FYI it's blue and pink not green.

So I made a dangerous trip over to T&T this week and came home with some new goodies. Most notably the 12in blue and Pink table acro and the 13in turquoise stag. The table reminded me of my old Pink Hyacynthis so it was a must and the guy cut me a deal on the stag as well. There are some frags as well, mainly millies and a prostrata. Good thing T&T is a good 30min away or else I think I would be over there every few days. Cool thing about the table is when it's in normal light it just seems to glow purple. I didn't pull out tripod or adjust the white balance so not all of the pics do the tank justice.

I also made up a batch of fish food several weeks ago and I would have to say it was well worth the effort, esp. for the filter feeders. My purple gorgonian has crazy polyp extension now and the tank is much happier.

The Bubble king so far has been the best investment I have made on the tank, great skimming capacity, stable bubble column, and awesome pump. There is a reason why it has the reputation as the best skimmer on the market. I also love the reeflux 20k bulbs, perfect crisp white with a blue hue. I was looking at the Radiums at T&T and I would have to say I prefer the reeflux.

Next up should be an order from Dr. mac, going to add some clams, a few gorgonians, and of course more sps. I might start collecting zoos to cover the overflow for a nice touch.

I will try and get a few shots inside the canopy after I just did all of this work in there. I also added 36x UV actinic LED boards with 5 LEDs a board. Really makes the colors pop, I will be using it to look at the tank after the MH's go off. I need to balance it out some more with some more blue led's.

Sorry guys, I got home really late last night so I didn't get a chance to take any picks with the lights on, I will do my best to get updated shots this evening. Dave and I redid the whole tank last Sunday and it looks so much better. I also added 44 new fish, 43 assorted Chromis and a Achilles/Gold Rim Hybrid tang.
