340 Gallon Mixed Reef

I did not i figure since its a brand new build it can cure in the tank ill be doing large water changes weekly and come week 4 ill bring the gfo reactor online

Anyone know a good magnet algae cleaner for 1in thick acrylic that's not crazy expensive

That is some awesome liverock! However long it takes to get rid of the phosphates is well worth it. In my opinion nothing comes close to pukani for viewing pleasure.

If it gets out of hand a turf algae scrubber will at a minimum make the algae grow in your sump versus in the display. Between that and gfo you should have a clear display and eventually have all of the leeching phosphates gone.

If you filled the live sand with ro water and not a premix wouldn't that kill the bacteria in the livesand?

Not sure on if the ro killed anything each bag of sand had bacteria packets in them which I added once the salinity and temp was up to par there was no water in the bags sand was dry with bacteria packets my skimmer is going crazy nice thick dry foam water is very clear I can't wait to get this bad boy cycled so I can slowly start adding some live stock and found out amazing news my neighbor is the owner of eye candy coral and has a big addition on his house just for his coral propigation once up and running ill be there weekly if not daily

As for the algae magnet I was looking at the acrylic version of the great white cleaned the tank yesterday with a step stool and a microfiber only took like 15 minutes but I'd much rather have a magnetic cleaner

Made a vented drain crazy how quiet this whole system is also skimmer is working amazing and water getting clear I love this rock can't wait til it starts to purple up amazing stuff

Looking awesome! I wish mine were this far along.

What is the recommended depth for the 5000? I have an 8000 but its still in the box.

I've read different depths all over my sump baffles are 9 in and water line about 9.5in my skimmer is on a 2in stand so its at about 7.5in I do have the 3in neck extension this thing rocks most people have luck between 6.5-7.5 from what I've read my 5000 in huge cant imagine a 8000 lol

2week update diatoms blooming like crazy I've been ghosts feeding everyday skimmer pulling out lots of nasties added 3 turbo snails today just to see what happens they live and clean the tank that's great they die and continue my cycle that's fine to

Yes lights are on during my cycle should they not be? Also salinity is 1.025
amonia is 0 nitrite is 0 and nitrate is 20 ppm also phoshate is 8 ppm hannah

I would leave the lights off during cycle, they are just helping fuel your cycle. Phosphates is extremely high. The happy range is less than .02. Phosphate is a fertilizer when it comes to algae, you will go through a lot of GFO

Ya I'm thinking the rocks are the reason for the phosphate once cycle is done I'm doing multiple water changes so if I keep my lights off for now when should they come back on I've always cycled with them on I have my blue led for 12 hrs white led for 8.5 and coral plus t5 for 6.5

8.5 is alot for the white LEDs. I would run them no more than six hours considering thats how much the sun is at its highest peak on average during the day. I also agree to cycle tank without lights.
