340g LED SPS tank from Brazil

Beautiful tank!! If this isn't proof of LEDs I don't know what is. Of course good husbandry like yours is essential.

Well, tanks like this really sway the argument that LEDs don't show well on SPS. If you get decent LED fixtures, with variable adjustments in color, it really seems to make all the difference in the world. My 2w LEDs with fixed color just don't get that pop out of every coral the way the AI's do. Your reef looks just great!

I think you have to consider this is 720 watts of LED lighting. I do not have the experience with this size of tank to say whether or not it is better than running 3 x 250 watt MH. My gut tells me it is... but I wish I could hear from someone who has had a MH tank and switched to LED's and see before and after pics. After all, we have to remind ourselves we are looking at a $6,000 lighting setup here...

You are right. But....the real deal about having 10 AI fixtures is due to the light distribution.

Yes, the biggest issue on LED market as I know is the distribution.

My tank can do the same work with half of this fixtures If I change the lenses to 70 degrees.

I believe that with the newest CreeXP-M (140lm/watt) we will use lenses with 80 maybe 90 degrees and cover the same area as a MH bulb can do.

I'm satisfied knowing that this lights will last at minimum 6 or 7 years. And a 250W MH cannot achieve the PAR measures I have, so, 6 years changing 400W MH every 6 months will cost more than 6000USD plus energy.

YESSS...this tank is another living proof that LEDs have arrived and no doubt they can sustain corals, especially SPS corals thriving and they look great under LEDs which is an added plus.

I am using exclusively LED lighting for my new tank (stocking corals now), they are definately an expensive initial investment, but the the colour rendering they have and the ability to be customizable is something lacking in MH systems. We can mix and match the colour we want and which gives the best results visually and growth wise.

Roberto, your tank is just too cool and your corals are just beautiful. Your husbandry and photography skills are master class.

The corals are so vivid and they are all healthy and growing beautifully.

This tank is a great inspiration for people like me and other who are going all LED for their reef systems.

Keep updating Roberto....we are all keenly watching and also learning.
Excellent choice for skimmer, nothing to beat a Bubble King :)
Please let us know the improvements on your system after adding the BK skimmer and also a review of hows the skimmer is working for you.

Brazil does have an amazing selection of corals...were do you get the corals/frags from? Do you purchase from LFS or you get them shipped to you direct from world wide?

Good luck to ya in maintaing your slice of the ocean.

I have changed everything.

The reef is now BB (star board)

New Rocks, new layout.

Corals have faded a little but they are going back soon...

12 AI units now with 70 degree lenses.

Here is how is it now. Soon more pics.

Hi Roberto. I love the new look. Why did you move to 70 deg optics? I am also thinking of changing all mine out to 70s.

Hi. I have changed because with so much PAR available, there are lots of space for better light spread.

With the new lenses I still have pleny of PAR (980 at the top), 500 at the bottom (24") and I have 100% uniform light distribution on every part of the tank.

ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING......I love the new look and spacious layout.

Good luck with acclimating the corals to their new home.
