Hi all,

Just wanted to share my excitment. I got the first pictures of my new tank from www.envisionacrylics.com and decided to give you guys a preview. Hopefully the tank and stand will be ready next week and then the fun will really begin.

Tank specs: 67" long x ~46" wide x 28" tall eurobraced - shape is a flatback hex. It will be viewed from front and back with pillars obstructing the view on both sides.

Here's a pic without the top or bottom:

Here's a pic of the overflow from the bottom. There are 4 compartments here and an open area between them. The two middle compartments are for the 2" drains and the two outer compartments will each hold a Tunze Stream 6200 (the nozzle will stick out of the hole in the compartment). The open area between the overflows will hold a Tunze Wavebox in tandam with a third Stream 6200.

Here's a pic of the area where the tank will sit. Construction is still ongoing but you can see the tank shape in the soffit on the ceiling.

That looks like it is comming along well. Where will all the plumbing be located? Is the back area going to be the fish room?

Looking good. James does awesome work. I just got my tank on Monday. Mine is about half the size of yours, so I would imagine you'll have a very large crate to deal with :)

The sump and associated equipment will go in a fishroom in my garage about 25' away. The pipe will have to run in the crawlspace (I don't look forward to that). I have a 8'x4' closet that everything needs to fit in and it's shared with an existing 215gal tank.

Really nice Art, that is going to be one sweet set-up. Anyone can order an expensive tank but you've really done some awesome work yourself. Can't wait to see more progress.

Looking sweet! I like the idea of having the stream inside an overflow box which allows it to suck water from the surface in one compartment and from the middle in the other compartment. A question/concern I have is will the overflow be able to handle the extreme flow the 6200 puts out? Maybe Im looking at it wrong..

Hi all thanks for the kind words. I am trying my hardest to keep it clean and give it a "built in" look. My chief advisor and technical officer on this project is Greg65 from http://www.omegareef.com/. He gave me lots of ideas on the tank setup and is building the steel frame stand and cabinetry.

Mwood - for lighting I'll have 6 DE 250w MH in SLS Reef Optix III fixtures and SLS Bluewave ballasts. Three along the front and 3 along the back. There will also be 4 48" VHO Super actinic and 3 48" VHO Aquasun bulbs. The MH bulbs be lit 3 at a time (I think) in conjunction with the VHO's.

Lunar Cubes - The 2 outer Tunze compartments will only draw water in from the long vertical slots along the face of the wall. The 2 inner drain compartments will only draw water from the top slots. Notice that the only way for water to get from the outer compartments to the inner compartments is thru the top overflow slots. So the Tunzes don't effect the overflow loading.

Thanks again,

Art

I like the tunze "boxes". That looks to be a very impressive setup and I have always likes the style of the flat back hex. Should go very nicely with the location you picked to put it- that's always the hard part with a tank shaped like that but it looks like you pulled it off very nicely. Good luck and keep the pics coming.

guys,

Be sure to watch this thread over the next couple of months.

Art has REALLY done his homework on this tank, and despite his normal penny pinching mentality (Total joke here Art.....

), he has spared NO expense on this project.

Im dieing to see the finished product! The water motion alone will be worthy of an admision price.

Hey Greg,

No offense taken. You know my moto "I will spend no dime before it's time" :)

That remark will cost you a couple points of the cabinetry though...

Art, did you construct the soffit yourself? Are you going to drywall the front of the aquarium to match the wall, or will the stand look different?

I just realized it's viewable from both sides. That is fantastic. This is one the most thought out tanks I have ever seen. You will not believe James' work. Just buy a few extra drill bits since you'll strip some trying to take his crate apart.

Fliger,

Thanks for the compliment (I read your whole tank thread while researching this).

Actually Greg built the Soffit - he knew better than to let me do such work. I told him that any flaws could be fixed with molding by the cabinet maker :)

I've done extensive modifications on the pillars to make them ready for the tank area. It's been fun work (but I can't wait for it to be done).

James has been great thru the whole process. I'll post more pics when the tank actually arrives.

Missed this question

The soffit will be textured and painted to match the existing wall and joist that you see along the ceiling - this will give it a "built in" look hopefully. The canopy will be built into the soffit using some exotic wood grain yet to be determined and will totally enclose the area. The stand will match the canopy. Greg does unbelieveable work with wood.
