370G Tank Preview

I've spent alot of time trying to design the racks in my head using a mixture of square acrylic rods and sheets.

FWIW here's one idea that's not lame (if you haven't seen it): reefrack
Was thinking these could work too. Nice and simple cut it to size.:

Is it not possible to have the wavebox in its own compartment similar to how your doing the streams?

Sounds like a DIY opportunity to me! :) Kinda like an overflow without slots and with a hole for the pump?

Doing this would interfere with the operation of the of the wavebox

The box will interfere with wave which will inturn will interfere with the pump timing, Which is what causes the wave

Besides the wavebox looks like a box so I don't see why you would want a box within a box

Nick, I have a Bubbleking 400 Internal that's been on order for ever. If it falls thru, then I'll consider a big H&S or Deltec.

Art

I see a picture of an big H&S already! Is that a 2x1260? Is that not big enough for you?

Correct, I didn't want to take a chance and reduce the Wavebox's operation by putting it into another box (who know's what weird requirements it has). Anyways, I wanted to leave that area open for to put another Stream underneath the Wavebox as well as have the intake to the CL on the bottom - so that's like 13000gph going thru that area...

I've looked at the Reefracks but am just not sure...I guess it can't hurt to order a kit and see...

Fliger, that 2x1260 H&S is for my 215 gal tank...It really does a great job. I guess I can consider getting yet another...or maybe one of the tall Grotech skimmers...

I thought so. I had the same skimmer and recently purchased the 3x1260, I'm very happy with it (only up a few days). I looked at the Grotechs but they are venturi, not needlewheel - at least the ones I looked at. The 3x1260 seemed like a no brainer as it was $1,000 cheaper than it's Deltec equivalent.

I absolutely loved the 2x1260 - I just feed a lot and felt like I wanted to stay a little further ahead of my tank. I didn't consider BK because of supply issues.

Arent the reefracks the same cheap poly shelves from Costco, Target, etc?
TAP sells black eggcrate, too, though its a little weak for a good sub structure.

I was considering using the cheap poly shelves but the link I posted was to one that someone made w/ strips of acrylic. Looks pretty good. Glad to hear TAP has that stuff w/ enough supports it would work just fine. See Travis' tank here on RC.

Joe,

My 215 is being converted from a mixed reef to a mostly softy/LPS tank. I'll decrease lighting and flow a bit to save on energy. My wife loves the softies, so now we're both happy :)

Steve,

I'll use a Sequence Dart for the return pump - so with the headloss and after diverting some for the reactors I'm hoping to get about 1200gph or so turnover. It's definitely not the sweetspot for the Dart, but it's what I have. I may also try a Mak4 (but use a seperate submersible for the reactors).

The tank has arrived at Art's house. The stand is almost ready for delivery. This project is going to start moving forward now.

Once the tank and stand are installed and plumbed, we will build the "facade" to enclose the stand and canopy.
Id like to build it in some "russian teak- mahogany- oak" , but Art will probably have me use balsa wood.

:D

Art,

Awesome project. I love the beveled viewing planes... that's a really nice touch.

How did you go about spec'ing out your stand? Was there a particular grade of metal that you had to use over another? What was the ballpark on the stand (with all of the bells and whistles above, but before you "skin" it)?

Keep the updates coming.
