Psyire, the fans are honeywell wall mount fans. I bought mine at Bed Bath & Beyond and have seen them at all the local hardware stores and Target.

Greg, thanks - the male is 7" and the female around 4-5". I put a few acro's in on Friday and over the weekend. Most have done well - including the tort. Hopefully it'll get it's color back soon. Right now my photoperiod is still pretty low. I'll give the acro's a week to aclimate then start increasing it a little bit. The triggers haven't munch on any yet (fingers crossed).

Dude, it's about time you start a thread on your DIY tank!!!

UnderwaterExotic,
The fact that Xanthicthys sp. triggers are reef-safe makes them very alluring to reefkeepers. The Crosshatch triggers are some of the hardest to come by of the species.

Chicken, this pair was kept in the SPS and acan frag tank at Atlantis. They didn't seem to be interested in eating those. So I think I'm safe.

UnderwaterExotic, to be honest I've always wanted a trigger (I love the way they swim and have seen schools of hundreds on scuba) in my reef. I originally was looking at the Blue Throat trigger because the male looks awesom and they are reefsafe. They are also reasonably priced. When I saw my first Crosshatch trigger in person, I changed my mine. Beautiful fish - I'd say the nicest I've ever seen in a home aquarium. They also have a very nice personality, are very hardy and swim in the open. The fact that they are huge adds a totally different look to the tank.

I'll be picking my fishes with great care - trying to keep fish that can live in pairs, harems or schools. I like that better than a single.

I think they are worth the money and am glad I was able to find a healthy pair that's already acclimated to an aquarium.

Those triggers are awesome. Im pretty new to reefkeeping and salt in general but was at my lfs today and saw picasso and niger triggers. Probaly pretty run of the mill but triggers are sooo cool. Once I get my own house, first thing I do is get a big ol tank. Nice tank BTW,looks awesome, are you going BB?

Sounds like the female is okay for now. Can you give us an update on her status? Perhaps a closeup of her as well?

Yes, the female is starting to heal up nicely. They both definitely eat like pigs - they're so big had beefy that I really don't know how much they should be eating. The tail fins of both are also starting to show much nicer color than when I first bought them.

Here's a close up of the female from a few days ago. You can see the blemish on her flank. When I first got her, there was a bit of flesh exposed...not now.

A nice shot of both: The male has the red tail.

oh yeah that pair look great, nice choice, wish I could bring you that football of a clam but it seems to have joined the family. Cant wait to see it in person, how about a piece of blue polyp pink stylo instead?

I'm not quite ready to update yet. Still waiting for the cabinetry to be installed - hopefully within the next few weeks. I'll post pics when it's finally complete.

Otherwise, the initial tank cycle and algae bloom is subsiding and things are looking good. Hopefully I can start stocking in the next month or so.

As for flow, I'm very happy with the streams and Oceansmotions/Dart. The wavebox is also very cool - but may be somewhat underpowered for my size tank. I'm getting about a 3/4" wave so I guess I can't complain.

WOW. Your set-up is exactly what I would love to have someday in my own home. Sort of a room divider, a view from the outside, the kitchen, looks like the living room, something you see when you come through the door.......Very nice.
