375 g Reef/ 600 g System stuffed in my office

Yes, this should be just enough craziness to carry me over until the 375 (or a 36" deep replacement) tank can be moved in. Not to mention, it will firmly establish my long term filtration plans before any large display goes on line and that has been a goal of mine all along.

You just about guessed the program for the 40B. zoas, LPS, the nem(s) and clowns and a 6" sand bed with some macros too. I've never really made an effort to keep the zoas or LPS as the SPS bug bit me immediately. I'd really like to get a blue spot jaw fish for this tank too. The 100 & 75 will be BB so this "nano" is the best place for it.

Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! I have the same plan. When I move to my next tank the display will be last. It did it 1st last time and all I had to mover from my 150 to 30 was fish and no coral. I want to make sure everything filtration and equipment wise is set up on first. Than I will take my time with whatever new display for my aquascape and flow implementation. You can even get a pair of seahorse in the 40 or pipe fish too. Way cool.

Any updates?

WOW!
It has been a long time!
I was hoping to update with my office system all finished ... but .... I've been just insane at work ... which is a good thing.

I'll update soon ... and no .... the office system is not finished! :spin2: :spin1: :fish2:

Hey Eric!

Hope all is well.
Yes! I've had a great year despite the economy. But I've done it with half the staff I had two years ago so it has been at great expense to me personally, time wise, as I wear all the hats needed to fill in the gaps.
The 375 has a sale pending so it's gone.
I bought a 260 to replace it but have not touched that since getting it.
Suffered a heat induced crash this summer loosing 80% of my SPS colonies.
Currently spending my reefing time building my systems health back up and adding frags .... agian!

Well hello stranger :wavehand:

Its been a long time..... sorry to hear the 375, I know you were looking forward to setting that tank up....
But your other systems look like they are coming along nicely....
I'm glad to hear the economy is looking up for you as well......

Hey Sandy!

Hope all is well with you , Ed and your awesome fish room & system!

The 375 just was not going to fit anywhere given the new office space. Due to work, I've had to limit my on line time to still have family time. But all the effort should allow me to develop a pretty nice system based around this 260 I picked up. It's only 2' wide, bur with an end overflow still has some nice floor space to fill! :D

Sounds like you have everything planned out, that is AWESOME!
Ed finally had time to finish a few projects I wanted in the fish room...
He finished the (2) 40g breeders set up and is trying his hardest to convince me to remove one of the two sinks in the room..... I don't think he is going to win that sales pitch.....:lolspin: I asked him to build some kind of removable counter top for the sink...
We have 2 mated pairs of Banggai Cardinals, and we are raising 2 batches right now. If we could catch the other male who is holding right now, we will have 3 batches......once we catch him, he will have a new home in one of the 40g breeder tanks.... so catching him next time will be easier....

Sandy

You do keep Ed busy!

Those sinks are soooo handy to have! The removable counter top is a great idea!

So I snapped a few pics on the way out the door tonight.

As I may have mentioned, I suffered a huge set back this summer loosing over 80% of my SPS :furious:
Things are on the mend, but so many of my beautiful colonies are history.
Here's a Shawn Bennett tort that is hangging on and even comming back.

A Miami Orchid that was a mini colony grown from a frag. Probably faired the best of all my SPS.

A frag rack newly filled after a Club Frag Swap :beachbum:

A new deresa (4") to replace the 11"+ deresa I had for over 5 years

A ultra max I grabbed from Dr Mac at the Swap :fish2:

And a bad FTS of the 100. Here with 2x 250 ReefLux. I'll be taking these out and hanging a 400 ReefLux on one side and a 120w LED on the other this weekend to do a side by sside comparison.

Still a long long way to go to get even close to where I was, but it is all about the journey ... right?! :artist:

Bax,
I sorry to hear about your loss... But glad to hear you are making a nice come back....
Frag swaps are always fun... Please tell me you dipped your frags......and your 100g is your QT tank....

We had a set back of AEFW, only to find out we had flat worms too.... I think the AEFW kept the flat worms in check....

I had Ed make a 10g QT tank for me and NOTHING goes in the DT unless it has been QT for a 4-6 weeks.... I thought dipping in Coral RX, etc... was good.... but nothing kills AEFW except Interceptor....

I'm not wishing you bad luck...... just sharing my bad experience...

Sandy

I dip in Revive, TMPCC, and Interceptor. This entire set up is a QT of sorts as I will grow out here for my home project.

Interceptor kill Red Bugs and other crustaceans, unfortunately that includeds hermits, pods and some shrimp. But it will NOT kill AEFWs. For that you need Levemisol (spelling???).

However, when corals are comming in Tropic Marin Pro Coral Cure ( TMPCC ) will knock off AEFWs so you can see that they are present on the coral piece. It is rather harsh on the coral IME. So I dip in Revive to "wash" then Interceptor, back in Revive, then TMPCC for 15 min MAX! Back to Revive and then an SW rinse and into the 100. I watch each coral checking every 5 min and will pull it if it looks stressed. Some corals really really don't like the TMPCC but the stress is better than a AEFW infestation!

If an incomming piece shows any sign of AEFW it goes in the trash. As you can't dip for the eggs. That is where your QT protocol really has its value and, when finished, I will have a 10 or 20g just for incomming corals to QT. It absolutely the way to go! Earlier this year I tossed out a beautiful $50 deep water granny frag and I NEVER (well .... rarely) drop 50 bucks on a single piece! Boy that burned me! From a reputable "SW specialty" LFS too!

You are 100% right QT ... QT ... QT!!!

 I knew you had your routine down....Sometime Ed would surprise me with a piece when I would come home from a little vacation... He wouldn't dip it in anything.... by the time I got home, the new piece would have been in the tank for a few days, and well the rest is history.....It was hard lesson to learn, but we never put another piece in the DT without QT!

So you don't think Coral RX kills AEFW's??? I know it doesn't kill the eggs, when I find eggs, I either frag off a few pieces off the colony or ..... IT GOES IN THE TRASH!

Sandy

I've never personally used the Coral Rx.

My one and only encounter with it was when the LFS that sold me the infected deep water also pushed the Coral Rx as their one dip that they use religiously! Obviously didn't work in the case of that coral frag!

Otherwise I have no experience with it to speak from.

I understand, I don't know if actually "kills" the flat worm, or just makes it sick enough to fall off the coral. But I have used it to dip our frags in and I can see the worms, if any, in the bucket... If we do see worms in the bottom of the bucket, I have a jewelers magnifying head set and I look for eggs....that's when we either frag or toss the piece in question and then they frag goes into the 10g QT tank....
