375 g Reef/ 600 g System stuffed in my office

Hehehehe :)

I may reduce that poundage if it's just too much. That is just what I am willing to devote to the tank if needed. Open space is key to my vision of this tank's scaping and the reason I lost my mind and pulled the trigger on such a big tank in the first place.

Hey Eric! Thanks for jumping on!

I won't get too much done this week cause of a busy schedule, but I hope to make the tank clean enough for a water test and get most of the the work on the stand done.

Still no major advances. I've just been prepping the stand and canopy for touch up painting just as soon as it's warm enough to paint in my shop. I am also pre-fabing shelves for the frag, fuge and other equipment. The frag should be up very soon.

I am confident enough to have picked this guy up.

A 2 1/2-ish inch tenneti tang. He was gulping meating chunks of food and zoe soaked nori minutes after I took this pic.

He'll stay in my frag tank for a while. I want to have all my tangs QT'd and in the system before the DT comes on line so they can all be added at once.

I was so excited to get him that I bumped into my CaRx and snapped off the discharge off the volute of the BL20 pump... grrrrr. I only walk by it a dozen times or more a day!

Thanks courgarman!

He's the smallest tenetti I have ever seen in an LFS and just amazing in person with the right lighting! I am very happy.

I hope to find a juvi orange shoulder and atlantic blue soon too. I want these QT'd and isolated within the system so that when the 375 DT goes on line and is ready for stocking, all (or most ) of my A. tangs can go in at once. This way they'll grow up togetther in the big tank (biggest I'll ever have at least) and hopfully live in peace.

They had a fowleri, a barieni, and a spotted cheek there too but I am afraid these boys get too big long term at 18 to 20" +. They were awesome though!

I picked up a convict tang today for the QT. I have been considering this tang for while and was on the fence, but once I saw it in person, it was mine!

He's a bit more camera shy than the tenneti. Maybe tomorow he'll feel up to a pic or two.

Here's the convict tang. These guys don't get nearly enough attention IMO. Very attractive, well manered, good grazers, not much not to like!

I agree. Great looking fish!

Thanks! I think the flash of silver will be pretty cool! And there are amazing light blue highlights throughout the body and fins.

He's still being a bit finicky & shy. Although I havn't seen it, he is eating just still hiding at any movement near his tank. I am trying to get some zoe soaked ON veggies in him.

The tenneti is a PIG! Won't touch pellets yet though.

Nice looking convict! They are one tang that I haven't been able to keep. I've lost track of how many I have tried and not matter which tank I place them in, I haven't been able to keep them for more than a week or two.

Chuck

What do you think is the main reason you can't keep them? Is it collection, or shipping related or just poor acclimation of the species to the aquarium? I guess I am really asking, am I doomed? You and Cougarman are my tang mentors so your opinion counts big time as I delve into keeping tangs in relatively big numbers.

I've heard of other people having trouble with convicts too. I never had a problem with my convict, he's several years old. Fowler's on the other had appears to be a challenge for me.

I don't know why I have not had luck with them in the past. I did not put them in QT before adding to the tank. I've bought them both online and from LFS's and most times, all they did was to swim from side to side in my tanks. I never saw mine eat Nori from the feeding clip, so if you can get yours to do that in QT, you will be miles ahead of me. I don't know if size had anything to do with them, but mine were always smaller than the majority of other tangs in the tank.

I have read that the convicts are very timid as tangs go. So, this guy is a little bigger than the other tangs I plan to aquire. With any fish, I generally prefer getting juvis and watching them grow. With the convicts all the very small ones I have seen where very thin. This individual is about 3 1/2" and had some thickness through the body along with great color so I pulled the trigger.

I saw a small one this morning at the LFS that was cute and active, but looked like it hadn't eaten in weeks.

That's exactly what I mean Chuck. They look like they are starving and not eating for the most part.

Slowly trying to get my act together to move forward with the 375

Sanding stand where the PO had painted around his Tunze controllers & drivers and stuff.

Sanding inside too so I can seal it with Kilz

Getting close to finishing the frag stand. Pieces are cut, just need to assemble and paint it.

I have to scratch my head a bit and figure out how best to rework the manifold I had put together for the 120. I, of course , had just finished it when I picked up the 375 and changed everything!

I also need to get some glass cut so I can beef up the tank bracing. Two of the cross bracess were cracked by the PO from laying MH lights on them. They have been cracked for a long time without incident, but, I'd say now is the time to fix it. Also, I've read a thread where butt jointed euro bracing seperated on a tank with almost the exact same build specs as mine. It was brand new too! So I want to add additional bracing to tie in the butt jointed pieces. I need to find a source for the good silicone.
