375 g Reef/ 600 g System stuffed in my office

I got enough plumbing done to run the Dart. I have it really dialed back as I need to run another branch off the manifold to let teh Dart rip, but that'll have to wait until Monday.

So, that let me get the chiller and MRC on line. Here's the MRC running again.

But way more exciting then that, mt orchid dottbacks reunited for only a few weeks have spawned!

I was relocating corals and went to move this empty ccrocea shell that is encrusted with zoas when the male orchid dashed out of it.

Upon closer inspection, this egg mass floated out!

You can see viable embryos. I don;t have the facility as yet to rear them, but it is very exciting to see the pair do thier thing so quickly after being reintroduced.

I put the shell back and the male returned right away to tend the eggs.

Thanks! I thought it was pretty cool too!

I don't have the set up to rear them at this point, but is is a goal of mine to set up a tank and try to rear the ODs. I am encouraged that these will spawn regularly as they are both fairly young and give the right conditions could get into a groove where they spawn on a fairly regular basis giving me ample opportunity to work out the rearing process.

Did you do anything special when gluing the spaflex?

I used a lot of spaflex on my closed loop, and it still makes me nervous... so many horrow strories floating around about joints blowing open...

How are the ribs? Being from Oklahoma, I'm still trying to envision a drilling rig in New Jersey... ;)

The spaflex was already glued up when I aquired the MRC from the previous owner. I was a bit nervous at first as I've never used it. Being a hard PVC kind'a guy I like a well glued ridgid joint. But, I have used this for some time with no issues, and I have tested in with many different pump configurations, using this feed section on those with 1" discharges. Currently I am using a Pan World PS 200 which is a pressure rated pump, I'd like to mod the becketts and run a Dart to cut down on heat and electricity.

The ribs are much, much better thanks. Still a bit tender after a good sneeze, but all in all pretty good!

Here in Jersey, most of the water we drink comes from water wells. So, given our population density, investigating and remediating groundwater that has become contaminated is fairly big buisnes.... At least it is when people are buying and selling properties. Commercial and residential property sales are in the skimmer collection cup here at the moment. So, right now it's pretty slooooooow. In case you haven't heard, the powers that be "under estimated" how bad the economy was! You can't make that stuff up! If they have a lot of rigs there, maybe I should move to Oklahoma! :D

Well, I think it's time for Barack and Joe to step up and accept responsibility for the screw up ...time for beating the Bush has long past... :bum:

You'll have lots of work if the "crap and trade" bill passes...
;)

We got rigs galore down here, but we're extracting hydro-carbons and injecting saltwater like there's no tomorrow...

Ya gotta love horizontal drilling 10000 to 15000 feet down... :eek2:

I enjoy your thread, and I appreciated when you stopped by ours.

Later.

Oil field drilling is a whole different ball game, and one I totally respect as one of the nmost dangerous jobs in America today. My little rigs do a lot of crazy stuff, but nothing quite like that!

I think Barack, Joe, W. and Dicky can all share some blame for our current state of affairs. All I know is, it wasn't ME!

I love this fish! :D

Looks like your getting ready to set the big one up!

Congrats on the OD too!
How often do they lay eggs?

Our clowns are laying eggs every 14 days!

Most of all I'm glad to hear you are recovering well!

Thanks Sandy

That I know of, this is the OD's first spawn. That is what is so exciting, I always thought they were spawning, but had no proof. Then they were seperated for so long!

My o. clowns spawn every 14 days or so too!

I started to plumb a new pump to the GEO kalk mixer. I went through 3 or 4 MJs and a Mag 2 in three years. Hopefully this BL will last longer. Once this is on line with an ATO & reservoir, it's on to the Ca RX!

Thanks Chuck!

The female is one my first SW fish, a pair of clowns. It changed form a male after my original female got to courious about food or something on a crocea clam and found out what no trespass really means!

Bax,

Sandy (of edand sandy) said I should motivate you to get working on your big tank... :D

So...consider yourself motivated! ;)

Thanks for stopping by our thread, too.

Thanks for the motivation! :D

There's just so much to be done!

Once I feel I have the holding set up stable, and therefore ready to handle the display as an expansion/addition, I'll get real about the display tank!

I have to get every thing sorted out before it starts to act like summer and really heat up out in the shop so I can manage the temp and humidity. I got the chiller on line, but now it seems as the internal temp control is stuck and reading 50 deg C 24/7, so it runs 24/7. Right now I can deal with that with a timer until I can fix the temp controler. And, yes, I tried a good swift kick!, maybe I need a bigger hammer! 8)

Tomorrow I leave for a week at the beach with the family. I got to say I am very nervous about the holding tanks.

I got nearly everything set up so it is is sitter ready. I synched the lights and chiller (remember tit has a disabled internal temp controller) on timers so temps should be OK. I plumbed a new PanWorld NH-10 PX pump to the GEO kalk mixer, what an awesome improvement that is!. The GEO is now hooked up to an ATO so all the sitter has to do is transfer RO water maybe twice. I added another discharge leg so I have more flow returning from the Dart to the 90&75. And, balanced the skimmer so it is running about as dry as it will so he only has to dump the collection bucket every other day or so and add an equal amount of new SW. And, tucked away as much of the electrical spaghetti as I could (Remember, no new circuits till the enclosure is framed)

All that should be left for me to do for him is fill my one week pill boxes with set amounts of food, one for pellets (an AM snack) and one for frozen (dinner) and pre cut nori sheets (lunch). I've have found this to be the best way to assure a sitter does not over feed the tank.

The problem? Just the other day, I was thinking to myself how great is was that I am approaching one month since moving the critters and aside from coral breakage and a little bleaching, and a blood shrimp that hopped off a rock onto the floor, I've had no real losses. Fish were fat and happy ... then while plumbing yesterday, I noticed a couple of white specs on my heniocus butterfly. This happens so I didn't freak, concerned, but not freaked. But this morning! My elusive yellow tang came out for breakfast and has the beginnings of a mean case of ick!

Uhg! This is an issue that may be too much for my sitter! Setting up a hospital tank (Which I know is the right thing to do) is not something I think I can do in the time I have before we leave. I am going to have him soak the nori in Zoe & Selcon before feeding it. And, I'll crank up the UV that I hadn't hooked up yet and set it to its slowest flow for the highest kill rate.

Other then that, any suggestions as to what I can do in the next 24 hours to help these fish make the week would be appreciated ..... :(

First, PLEASE enjoy your week off with your family :)
I'm sure alot of us feel the same way about our system(s) too!

Sounds like you have made a list of things for the sitter to do..
I totally agree with you on the dividing the food up, you will know if the fish have been fed properly not overfed!

As far as the ick goes, I have found using API stress coat works the best for a reef tank....... ick is caused by stress right????
So it helps with the slime coat on the fish so the ick critter can not hang on..... just read the directions for the proper dosing amount for your system(s).... (however, I use about 10-15 pumps)
It works for me and almost all of my reef club members use it as well.
Every time we add a new fish to the tank, our Pacific Blue Tang has an out break, these fish are a little nervous anyway, after a couple of days using the stress coat no more signs of ick...

Hope it works for you too!

Again, PLEASE enjoy your vacation with your family, you could use a little fun time :D

Do you have a controller that you can put either yourt lights or chiller on to keep the temperature stable?

I sold my Ranco cantroller with my old chiller. The AquaMedic chiller I have has an internal controller that stopped working after the move, it seems to be reading 50 deg C no matter what the actual temp is so it just wants to run.

I have an original version of the Reef Keeper, but the temp probe wasn't working so I ordered a new one, they sent me the probe that matches the Elite modle, I sent it back but have not gotten a matching probe for my old school RK unit as yet. I was allways a bit shy about running both the lights and the chiller on the RK, maybe it would be alright ... IKD?

I have the lights and chiller on timers. There's a lights off period for an hour mid day in there to cap the temps. This seems to be keeping the temps between 78-80 deg F. . Not to bad, but if we get a blast of heat wile I am gone, I won't be able to adjust it.

When I get back, I'll dig up a new RK probe and see what's involved in installing a replacement temp controller on the AquaMedic. If it is too invlved, I'll order a new Ranco controller for the chiller and be done with it.
