375 g Reef/ 600 g System stuffed in my office

brad burditt

Having the one system tied together helps a lot. All this work is not for nothing as everything I have set up here will remain pretty much in place. I'll change the use of the 90 & the 75 and just modify the plumbing a little.

i started with a google search on asm mods then came across a nj reef club foarm then found you posting pictures of a mesh mod on rc so from there ive been reading most of the blogs and here it stops well so far looks good

I really liked the results of mesh modding the Sedra 5000 on my ASM G4X. Then I meshed a Sicci and it really kicked some but. I plan to run a second Sicci on it internally to really push it to its limit. One day that'll run my system to be built at home. At least until I can get a hold of nice cone skimmer. Currently, I am running an MRC MR4R with a PanWorld PS200 on this set up, it's a watt gulper, but a real skimming beast!!!

I am itching to get going. I ran across a juvi Atlantic Blue tang and a juvi Orange Shoulder tang, both very young ay about 2 1/2-3", but I did not pull the trigger as I seem to be display challenged. But these are two tangs I would like to have and I really prefer getting my fish as young as possible. A Blue Line Angel is on that list too ;)

I am still learning about my new suroundings. Everytime I change to a new shop building, I go through a stage of re-learning how to controll temps as the seasons change.

.... Soon enough.

ya i thought about the mesh mod but i just dont no plus i have the pin wheel and i seen on the one you did wasent so do you own a retail store for fish or just have a tank setup in the office

You can mesh a pin wheel, but yes, the mods I did where to standard impelers.

....And, it's just my office, my buisness is far from a retail fish store!

dont tell me its an adult store haha j/k
with the mesh mod have you had problems with start ups

Nope, my work is out in the field on contaminated job sites. I do investigative drilling and inject stuff into the ground to clean up the contaminates. There are many similarities to reefing both chemically and biologically. I use my reef as an example of aerobic and anaeroic biological processes for clients all the time :)

... And ...Yes, when you have start up issues, you have to trim the mesh further, if it still jams, do it more.

I still have not found a correct replacement cord to my 1030SW camera so although I've taken quite a few OK pics I'd normally post for you, I can't, sorry! ::)

I really should just basically ignore my system more often. Since just before MACNA, I haven't done anything, except build another frag rack, and the SPS are just looking awesome. A friend brought back a Borealis frag from MACNA and is holding it, I have to get off my but and get to his place to pick it up soon as there's only one spot left on the new frag rack!

Still no enclosure built. One of my guys used all my framing wood I'd picked up for another project. Oh well, it need to be done too. So I've been using a bunch of 1/2 pink Styrofoam as a curtain and it has worked great to maintain system temps within tolerance. A little cool, and wider swing then I would like, but the corals look OK.

My CO2 regulator fried. The solenoid was just screaming one Sunday when I stopped in to check the tank(s). Luckily I had a spare in my pyle'o reef gear. Lucky too, it did not trip the GFI on the Heavy Duty power strip, but when I tested it is does trip an individual GFI. ??? I am going to disassemble the solenoid and see if it is stuck and fixable.

Just yesterday, I had to rescue my enchinada. It had been happily filling out and showing sweet color, but recently, like in the last two week, a red scrolling cap just started to overwhelm it. I had to pop it free of the rock it was encrusting to, which broke it off it's original ORA plug, surgically remove the cap. and it is now recovering on the frag rack.

I began remeasuring the 100 g to build another stand for it (used the first one to hold the sump and the 90) and I found a split seem on one brace. Sooo, I'll have to get to Paterson and pick up some WeldOn :P

The 5'x 19" x 19" 100g will be my holding system, temporary display, in my office. I can't take not watching my fish and corals from my desk any more! >:(

I have had absolutely no time to work on the 375 bracing. Soon enough we'll slow down for winter and I'll have a scary amount of time on my hands.

Anyway, I now have the video out cable in my pocket so I can show the tech guys exactly which cable I need for the 1030SW camera, I've been given the wrong one twice so far :P and I'll see about getting some pics up.

Hi Eric, patients is of great value in this hobby!

Even with the similar cable in my pocket I could not match it up to the Olympus, but good news, my wife found the original cable in some of her stuff in our room so I'll be able to down load some pics soon. Next time I am by a real camera store I really need to pick up a spare cable.

I gave, well sold for cheap, my 120 to a friend of mine and was helping him set it up, or at least get started over the week end. In pulling it down and cleaning up the 120, I bumped into my old 75 (A former reef from two offices ago). So I am going to spot it in a corner arrangment with the 5' 100. I am happy with this concept,so now it's time to get crack'n. I first need to build the 100 stand as I used the original stand I built for for the 90 and return sump.

Very sorry for the lack of updates especially photos, sooooo, now that I have my camera cable back, here are some pics from early to mid October. Later I'll post picks from this week. It will, hopefully be a good comparison.

My shop has a busted heater and my land lord has been very slow to fix it. So, I have been using this wall of 1/2" foam. The "Big Pink" wall , as I like to call, it has done very well at maintaining temps in the system.

A peep hole in Big Pink, I don't always have time to take it down to look at temps, pH and such.

My precious a. valida, I love this coral!

So, here are some pics of some of the many trumpets that I have. They grow well, as does the red stringy algea where ever I still have egg crate. I have to get rid of this stuff! Both the egg crate and the red stuff!!

Here's another next to a cluster of nuclear greens.

And here's another. And under this one you can see the last of the RBTA to recover from the split and Tunze shredding :P

Been so busy at work that not much at all has happened on the system, and when I can, I've been helping a friend with setting up my old 120, but soon, very soon, I'll be plumbing in the 100 and another 75. I've got them sitting in the office so that's a big step. I need the room! I need to do a fragging as my SPS growth has been sick lately. And, I adopted a few fish from a tank shut down in a near by town. I got a sweet little YT in the deal to replace the one I lost, the YT and my teneti are buds already. Also got two damdselzs that came with the YT as a package ::). A niger trigger came with them too, I was going to hand him off to my friend with the 120, but the trigger did not make it in QT, too bad he was a beauty.

From the "You Can't Make This Stuff Up" files

I was hanging a nori clip this morning. My 90 and 75 are essentially open top with hanging lights at this point. They form a corner with the right end of the 75 about 2" or less off the front of the 90 as I saw a splash of water, well more like a small wave hit the front of the 90 which tops out about 7" higher then the 75 with a "SLAP!", and then thought I heard a "plunk!"

I thought, that's odd, so I started looking around. Well, must have surprised the heck out of the Coral Beauty. The CB managed to clear the water line and top of the 75, carrying a rather large volume of water with it, it had to have bounced of the side of the 90 and ricochet its way down, under the it and into the drain end of my sump. Luckily it didn't end up in a sock where I would not have seen it.

My sump is set up so I can just reach the socks for changing, not so I can catch wayward angel fish. What a PITA catching him out!

So while there I changed some socks, which was needed. Also just looked around the sump to check things out, and noticed that one of my heaters was litterally sucked into the intake for BH my Dart! Ooops! I have a strainer cover for that some place!

All's well that ends well. The CB would be a huge dirt surf'n loss had it gone that way as it is one of my first SW fish acquisitions and a 26 bow nano veteran from over 5 years ago.
